Mondays suck in general but mine was made worse when a rock kicked up from a bus and decided to crack the OEM windshield on my 2019 4Runner.

I’ll limp the cracked windshield for a few weeks but as soon as the temp drops this thing is going to spider-out.

I’ve had to get replacement windshields in the past on an older F-150 and Accord where the finished product looked like a glue-fest but I didn’t care because the price was right and I didn’t care about the vehicles.

Any suggestions out there for good replacement windshields, is OEM even an option and any idea on pricing I can expect?

    I have a $1,000 deductible….

    Thank you!

I'm assuming the wind shield for 4Runners is similar to Tacoma's. I had my 21' Tacoma windshield replaced last year (the trucking company that damaged it, paid for it), but I went to Safelite. I got OEM glass, and it was over $1700. They had to calibrate it because of the radar sensor and stuff. The non-OEM glass was about $700 cheaper, if memory serves?

Oh, check your insurance policy. Most glass deductibles are only $250. They are always less than Comp/Collision deductibles.

This. Glass is often handled different.

Go on Safelite's site and just enter your info.

    Then, be sure to remember...

    "SAFELITE REPAIR, SAFELITE REPLACE"

I hate that jingle so much.

Vet your local Safelite, some of them are just awful. I had an independent shop do mine.

    Good Luck

They probably had to order the glass from Safelite, ironically enough.

If Safelite does it, do they arrange for the sensor recalibration, or do you have to do that separately?

I have a little crack that that's currently dormant, but will someday spring to life.

I had independent shop do my replacement with OEM glass.
    Cost me $100 for glass.
Had to pay out of pocket (but reimbursed by insurance) $1040 for calibration of sensor (2023 5th Gen). Recalibration was at dealer.

I'm with you on the jingle, it annoys me. But the Safelite that I went to did a great job. I was in and out in 90 minutes. They calibrated the new window and I was back on the road. I had the truck for another year before I sold it (regretted that decision) and had no issues with noise or the window being loose.

I got an OEM installed and calibrated by Safelite. In and out in less than a couple hours.

I had the original windshield in our 2021 T4R replaced this past spring after a rock hit it. Check your insurance policy because our coverage was "full glass" with zero deductible. I called my insurance company and asked if I could get OEM Toyota glass. They did some checking and said they would. I had a local glass shop I trust install the new OEM glass and I couldn't be happier.

As for aftermarket glass, I'm not a big fan of the cheap stuff Safelite uses. (The insurance companies love them though.) I work at a Toyota dealership and I've seen the difference between OEM and aftermarket close up several times. (Used cars get the aftermarket stuff.) The biggest difference seems to be the amount of waves in the glass. The quality of the installation workmanship is highly dependent on the person doing the work. Personally, I'll take OEM glass installed by a trusted shop any day of the week.

Safelite doesn't always use 3rd party glass. I've had two windshields replaced by them that were 100% OEM.

Also, some shops actually have Safelite come out to do the windshield work.

They were initially going to go aftermarket with mine, but I requested OEM. They did a great job.
