So I’ve drained the fluid.. measured just over 2.5 quarts came out.

Im refilling by the book which is basically almost 3 quarts.. well I’m almost 3.5 quarts in and no leak/stream is coming out. Vehicle is level. Using Amsoil unless their cheating quantity in the bottle..

Not sure what to do. Do I stop or keep pumping till it leaks out? It’s 2016 Limited if it matters.

Mine took more also and I chose the safest route of filling until it started dripping out.

Well I guess I’ll need to go grab another bottle lol.

I’m looking at the vehicle and I feel like it it would to be some off level too so sounds like I’ll add a bit more.

Is there a by the book measurement way too by like bending a tip in and seeing where it comes up to? I’ve seen such methods on other brands..

The diff holds more but than Toyota specifies. I used the fill until it spills method on my Tacoma but more fluid isn’t necessarily a good thing.

I have wondered about this. Not sure if correct but my assumption is it can not be overfilled with coming out fill plug.

Maybe someone will correct my logic and measuring in is a better approach.

You can see the level if you shine a flash light in it. Let it drip a little bit on the outside, but please don't over fill this thing. Just let it drip and see how it goes, clean it up and go. Mine took 2.9.

@ChessGuy what fluid did you choose after regear? I have always used synthetic but saw ECGS recommends dino.

I wish everyone used a bag like Valvoline and Amsoil. Were you able to pour/squirt with those containers or use a pump?

I used a pump because it was hard to squeeze the bottle all the way in and I didn't have clearance at the top. I was thinking that the plastic bag was the way to go as you can squeeze it all the way and move it around. This stuff was also pretty thick but ECGS recommends it so I just went with it. The plastic bags is definitely the way to go.

I used a pump. My local place didn’t have 75w90 Amsoil in a bag.. they had 75w140 in bags. Quite odd it only had 2.5 in there from factory.

Well added a small couple of squirts seems to be oozing out. I’m stopping at this point, over filling is also a great way to blow seals.

As thick as that is guessing strongly recommended to do the work while it's warm out. I do the same for grease. Too hard to pump when temp starts dropping.

Don’t over think it. Let the excess drip out of the fill plug and call it good.

Isnt this always the case lol? The 4Runner is new to me.. but I’ve done diff fluid changes on jeeps, bmws, ATVs etc. such a simple task but yet again somehow it drags on lol and takes me 2hrs to do just the rear end ‍♂️

Shade tree tip for using the hard plastic bottles where there isn't room to tilt it upward to pour the fluid out:

If you have a compressor/air in your shop you can poke a small hole at the bottom of the bottle and put your air nozzle on it it to push the fluid out while holding horizontally with the tip in the diff fill port.

Works well. Not totally drip free but a whole lot better than fucking around with squeezing those bottles or using some fill hose or funnel games.

Having seen it over pressurize and blow the cap off (and all the oil out) I don’t recommend that method.

i just drain the third or so that doesn't come out into the next bottle when it’s two thirds drained. rinse and repeat. You’re always going to have a little left over anyway.

I've done it countless times with no such troubles.

No suggesting you hit it with full pressure. Just a touch on the nozzle trigger.

If you're worried about it you can turn the regulator down.

Mobil 1 85w90 good for 500k miles if need be. I think it's good for hotter climates. Synthetic doesn't collect moisture or break down. I do everything every 90-100k service and be done. It used to be 90k maintenance was diff fluid change. They don't have timing belts so I guess they are selling some new and unnecessary. $70 Mobil 1 just in rear.
