    Hello Everybody!
I'm in the market to get a 4runner. I'm looking at all the different mods that I can put into the car and one of the things that I cant really find anywhere is, backup camera upgrade. Is it possible to upgrade the stock backup camera for a better quality camera? so that on the infotainment system can show a better picture? or am I SOL?

What's wrong with the OEM camera?

No need, unless your trying film a major motion picture.
Edit: when it’s raining or gets dirty is the only time I have had issues. I wish there was more light back there at times, still not enough to motivate me to add more light yet.

That makes sense, more light = more vision. Im just worried about it not being as clear for when I park in dark areas.

The side camera are crap for offroading, not sure what the hell I’m looking at. I would love to get a better resolution for sides and front, back isn’t used as much.

I've purchased a kit called Anytime Backup Camera from Cali Raised LED that Best Buy is going to install for me this week. It is a kit with a front bumper camera a harness and all the wiring to integrate it into the navigation screen with the existing backup camera. My understanding is that the existing backup camera harness plugs into the Cali Raised harness, which plugs into the Navigation system and effectively takes control. Part of the kit is a backlit switch that goes on the dashboard. The backup camera view automatically displays when the vehicle is in Reverse, but you can flip the switch at any time and see the front bumper camera view of what is in front of you.

The relevant part of this to your question is that what I've read in reviews is that the camera that comes with this kit is much better than the standard 4Runner backup camera. Cali Raised LED uses a camera made by Natika which they say is a very popular camera sold on Amazon. The first one I looked at there is only $39.99. You could take a look at Natika cameras to see if they might be a solution for your situation.

I've already decided to pick up the echo master rear view mirror which replaces mirror with a front (back of mirror) and back camera plus built in recording crash detection and break in. It's always on (re-writing) recording in glorious 1080p.

With the addition to that, I still plan on adding the trail grid pro plug n play Sony 9500 which I can add an additional 3 cameras (likely go front, underbody and right side).

These are all plans for a 2023..

Then easily upgrade the speakers to whatever I want. Stock head unit is so dated for 2023 it's a bit annoying.

Hello guys, I have a problem on my 4Runner after upgraded the head unit to Alpine Halo 9 (ILX-F509)… the rear OEM camera image its really poor and sometimes fails to output image, probably an issue generated by mismatch with corresponding quality on the head unit screen.

do you know if there is some OEM replacement part that includes HD resolution?

    thanks in advance!!

I have the Halo 9 and it does the same thing from time to time. Would like to hear what response you get about this as well.
