    Hello,
I just recently purchased my 2015 4runner with 95k miles. One of the first things I wanted to do was some maintenance that I know weren’t done on the vehicle. Was doing the differential fluid change and ran into a problem. I changed the back but had to replace the fill plug because how bad it was seized in there. Didn’t think I would run into this problem again but when I went to start on the transfer case both bolts are badly seized. I was just looking for some help on the matter on driving the vehicle with only the back changed. Will there be any problems? Does the fluid circulate so when I do order new bolts will I have to change the rear again? Please leave some helpful tips!

So the front, transfer, and rear don’t share any fluid? Your thoughts on driving the vehicle? Until I’m able to get bolts to finish the rest of the job ?

They don’t share any fluid. I’m assuming that the plugs are in, if so drive it.

As long as the differentials and transfercase have the appropriate amount of oil and all drain plugs and fill plugs are in then yes, you can drive it.

The front diff, transfer case and rear diff are separate, sealed systems. There is no fluid shared or exchanged between them. If you're having trouble with the transfer case plugs, seek the help of a mechanic/shop. Don't strip them out. A breaker bar and a lift can do wonders in terms of mechanical advantage to help get those off. vs. laying down underneath and trying to do it. Once off, you can also consider replacing the plugs with ones from a Lexus GX. They're more robust and easier. Hope this helps!

    Here's a very helpful article/tutorial: https://trail4runner.com/2018/12/24/4runner-driveline-fluids-how-and-when-to-change-them/

Anyone have the P/Ns for the Lexus GX Plugs?
