Just bought my first 4runner but not my first toyota up here in Fairbanks, Alaska. She's a 1997 with a lot of miles but no visible rust and has been well loved in Tennessee, Florida and Georgia until a few years back. Been lurking since I set my sights on this one and I look forward to getting to know all the ins and outs as it nears 300k and will certainly need love. Previous owner was a good backyard mechanic and replaced much of the suspension in recent years and timing belt has 20k on it. We're 6 inches into snow season here and I look forward to pulling it into the garage this weekend and going over bumper to bumper. I know to inspect lower ball joints, coolant, and the oil when I change it. Other suggestions, especially going into very cold winter (will check winterization components attached to the plug in and coolant mixture...) Thanks!

Welcome from Wisconsin! Sounds like you have a handle on it. Make yourself a list and check things off as you inspect the 4Runner. Just something I do.

Welcome! Nice 4R! If it has the original radiator, replace that soon to avoid transmission failure.

Welcome! I've only visited Anchorage in the summer, mostly on the way to Homer for halibut. Living in the eastern Cascade foothills, I would say you've got a handle on everything. Our temps are pretty comparable but our winters are shorter.

Keep an eye on what you've listed and you should be good. We're leaving in two weeks for our annual family visit, heading along the eastern Cascades, Sierras then over to Flag. Main issue right now is programming the GPS!
