I wanna do it right the first time.

I have a new 4runner Off road Premium and im looking to get a lift kit for it before i buy anything else. I was wondering what lift kit would be best to provide a 3"-4" lift?

I was looking at Toytec Boss Kit, Toytec Non-Adjustable Coilover and Toytec Adjustable Coilover.

-I'am also planning to purchase a new front bumper from c4 fabrications not too sure if that will cause my front end to dip down-

Can't go 4", 3" is the max on our rigs. Yes the weight of a plate bumper will cause the front end to be nose down. Most lift manufacturers offer stiffer coils to combat that.

Below is my standard issue copy and paste explanation that seems to help most folks...

1.Spacers- Not recommend but many folks report they work just fine. They are cheap, but if used off road extensively can cause damage, ride quality will suffer as well.

    2. Bilstein 5100 ride height adjustable shocks. You can set the front shocks to gain .85, 1.75, or 2.5 inches of lift using stock coils. At 1.75" lift in front you will be sitting just about level at the fenders, but will have slight reverse rake at the body. If you go to 2.5" you will need to either get lift springs for the rear or spacers. This set up will run you around $400-600. The higher you go the stiffer the ride will be due to preloading the factory coils.

    3. Also utilizing 5100 shocks you can get some taller front coil springs to gain lift. @Wheeler's Off-Road Inc ,Toytec, Old Man Emu make 1.6"-3" lift coils. This will add about $170-$200 to first option. This will make for a better ride due to your are not preloading your factory coil springs. You will also need either spacers or lift springs for the rear $50-$200.

    4. Ride height adjustable coilovers. Many different brands to choose from (Icon, Toytec, Fox, King..) but they are all going to run from about $1000-$5000 just for the front. These are a nice option because you can change the ride height while they are installed on the vehicle from 0-3" without removing the entire coilover assembly. This option will also give you the best ride on and off road performance. Only drawback to this option is that most of these will need to be rebuilt/serviced every 30k miles or so.

You will also need to take into account that when you do a lift you may need to add some after market upper control arms (UCA's) in order to keep you factory alignment in spec. In general most people can stay within factory specs with stock UCA's as long as you keep the lift under 2.5", but ever vehicle is different and even a 1" lift may require them. They run from $450-$1500 a pair.

KDSS is an option on the TRD offroad. Some have it, some don't. Yes that should be everything you need.

Great! Now to search for someone reliable and with experience in the Los Angeles/Orange County area to install them for me.

Try it yourself! Not too hard with standard hand tools...this is the method I have always used. Works great!

Toytec Ultimate lift, SSO Slimline bumper and 10,000# winch, emblem blackout, hood scoop wrap.
I have the Toytec Ultimate @ 2.5" with Bilstein 5100's and 650 front coils. I have the SSO front bumper and winch and have about 1/2 rake. If you are getting a bumper, and possibly a winch, you will want the higher rated coils. The ultimate runs about 1,300 + instillation.

I live in an area where 4 wheel drive and offroading is a big deal, so my dealer handles all kinds of lifts, wheels, tires, bumpers and winches and they have a dedicated advisor and techs just for off road, so I got my stuff dealer installed.

    Welcome to the forum!!

So since you are looking at an aftermarket bumper, we would recommend something with adjustments (boss or ultimate) to insure proper ride height and stance overall when you add the weight of the front bumper on..

Feel free to message me anytime if you have any questions or concerns.

    Thanks!

We've been using ToyTec's Boss kit on our FJ for a few years now and couldn't be happier. On it we put on a heavy, full steel bumper and did have to crank on the coils a little bit to keep it at 3". Recently we put the Boss System on our '17 4Runner along with a bumper very similar to C4's in weight and didn't have to make any adjustment at all at the coil-overs. As long as you go with a moderately sized winch with synthetic line you won't notice much if any front end sag. Toytec for the win!

I watch your videos all the time. I have 2016 4Runner SR5 no KDSS equipped. I ordered WARN 100022 bumper, that looks like the Southernstyle slim II I believe and WARN VR8 winch. I was debating on Toytec, Fox or Icon lift kit maybe 2-3". I live here in Northern Cali particularly in the Bay Area and I don't know if I will do extreme offroading or offroading at all. Easy to say just for the looks ;-)
I have BFG KM2 255/75/17 and my suspension is all stock but eventually I'm thinking of going 285/70/17 so I may need to lift soon.

    Thanks for all your thoughts.

Thanks for watching our videos! Give Toytec a call. They'll be able to set you up with a system that'll work perfect for what you need.

Is it true that if you don’t go over 2.5” lift you don’t need differential drop kit?

You don't need a diff drop at all. The CV angles even at 3" are fine. They are cheap and easy to install so if you feel better about having one go for it. You will loose a little ground clearance with the diff drop...
