If it's a body on frame with two solid axles, and tiny, then it will be a toy, and it will sell like hotcakes. Finally we will have a Toyota bulletproof Jeep. I think this new Toyota leader is really after everybody's lunch, I will not be surprised if they go after the Wrangler. Lil lil Land Hopper

Quality of the new Wranglers under Stalantis is horrendous. People are fed up. Toyota needs to step in for a kill. JK was way better than this crap. TJ and XJ were really good

The funny part about Jeep is the additional electronics added to every new Wrangler model, they're almost as bad as Land Rover!

3.6 L pentastar v6, and the 8-speed ZF automatic transmission are pretty decent. Jeep just can't put good stuff around them lol. Toyota should have bought them and put them out of their mystery

Yeah, the 2nd gen 3.6 is a decent engine, oil filter is in a weird place, but....

It's all the crappy sensors they're putting in all these vehicles. Cheap sensors = early breakage. Friend had a Discovery II where the ABS sensors would die if you went through a deep puddle. The entire brake system would fail. I mean, hello, is this not a 4wd vehicle? Crap electronics = crap performance.

I smiled when the dealership was explaining lemon law to me when I was buying the 4runner. I think there's a very little chance of a lemon coming out of the plants in Japan

Like I said before, we need a toy. We don't need another SUV. Plenty of SUVs in Toyota lineup. We need 50,000 a year little toys from Toyota.

I don't mind a few recalls and a few repairs, if Toyota really wants to go after the Wrangler. They can take the proven RAV4 powertrain and build something fun around it. Yes we will not have a 40 MPG Hopper, but we can have a 25 MPG one. Heck let's even put that three cylinder from the Corolla

The 2.5 makes more power than the 1GR.

When did they ruin the Landcruiser?

When they put IFS in it. 80 series was the last true LC.
And its not about power. The 2.5 is turbocharged and hybridized to make that power. Too much complexity. I still see 3rd gen 4Runners, heck even 1st gens, running around. We will not be able to say the same about 6th gen. Too much aluminum, plastic and complicated powertrains. Don't get rid of your 5th gen, its resale value may go up in future.

2 door 4Runner, I get what you are saying. But it may come back with two solid axles this time around :)

Why are you saying solid axles, there is no mention of it in any of the articles?

For the 10% - 20% of enthusiasts that say they would buy solid axle, the 80% - 90% of the modern, urban customers, the ones that make models profitable, they want IFS comfort. I just don't see solid axles happening. If you want solid axle, buy a Jeep.

They still produce the 70 series for other markets. ;)

And, for all of the people who complain about IFS, I wonder how many of them have actually been in a situation where IFS limited them.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love a solid axle 4Runner or Landcruiser option in the US, but I don't know if there's really a demand for it.

The turbo motor is a 2.4. There are reliable turbo motors out there.

Why not put solid axles under the 4Runner rather than reboot the silly FJ cruiser, though?

People weren't buying them. Why would Toyota keep producing something that doesn't make them money just because a handful of people on truck forums think they're cool?

I don't expect to see any SFA Toyotas in the US anytime soon. But, I would also say that a lot of average car buyers probably wouldn't even notice the difference between IFS and SFA handling qualities. Look how many people buy Jeeps just because they look neat.
