    Hi all,

My first post here. I’ve got a 98 4runner that has been sitting for a year in AZ. Haven’t tried to start it up yet but I will be soon. Assume the battery is toast so I’ll replace that. Pretty sure it has some old gas in it, not sure if I should just siphon it out and replace it, or more needs to be done there?

Anything that is a must that I need to do before trying to turn it over, just so I ideally don’t blow anything up? It ran fine a year ago.

    Thanks.

I would definitely drain the gas out and replace, same with coolant. I’d go ahead and replace the fuel filter, pretty cheap and easy. Confirm engine has oil. If it’s been sitting for a year, the tires probably have flat spots and might need to be replaced. Check hoses to see if anything has dried out or cracked.

I had a Jeep cherokee that sat for about a year and had some transmission slip so I changed that fluid and filter, then it ran fine.

Personally I'd change every fluid and filter possible before putting it through its paces. Then deal with any issues that may pop up after

Drain and replace the gas and oil. Coolant is good for years, so if it's newer than 4 years don't bother. Make sure brake fluid is alright.

Other than the new battery it should be fine.
