Kept hearing something rolling around every time I opened my tailgate. Popped off the grab handle and found this nut in there. Anyone recognize what it may go to before I do a bunch of research. The window lift mechanism by chance? I know the scissor lifts in the Highlander front doors are bad for loose bolts.

Is it a 10 mm? I don't know how it would get in there, but it kind of looks like the nut that holds on the rear wiper. I just took mine off the other day to change the arm.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. Couldn’t figure out where the noise was coming from until one day I lifted the gate and heard something rattling. Pulled out the plastic and the nut rolled right out.

That’s it! Thank you. I tried to get my arm up through that handle opening, but just too narrow. Have to do it the hard way I guess!

Mine did the same thing. I took a while to find the nut after I got the rear hatch panel off. Seems like there were 4 or 5 of them in there and they were all loose. Only one had fallen off and was rattling though.

What part of the back panel do they come from?

I think it holds the window regulator to the hatch.

It must have really made you nuts, no pun intended, if you made it your avatar!
