    2023 black limited 4 runner
I just bought the 2023 limited 4 runner and traded a 2013 limited 4 runner. I also had a 4 th generation before that. I was surprised the running boards were not standard. I ordered the black with chrome and my husband installed. The 2013 had retractable ones that I loved, and my older one just had black not retractable. My issue with these new ones is my foot doesn’t even fit on it. And when getting out I can barley get a heal on it. Has anyone else had these installed and noticed they are too narrow? Never had an issues with my others.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

Yeah, the steps that come with the Limited model are kind of useless. I tried using them when I stepped into a Limited model at my local dealership and I could barely get the toe of my shoe in. The plastic looking steps are crap. I did find a model with the power retractable steps and they were nice.

They were lower (easier to step onto), and were much wider. Nothing seems to come standard anymore, but dealers will always slap steps/sliders onto a Truck/SUV so they can make "that" much more money out of you when they sell you the vehicle.

Did you get retractable for the 2023? I was told they no longer had them.

I didn't get them. The 4Runner I'm buying had dealer installed black tube steps installed.

According to Toyota's website, this is an option that is available. I suspect they're dealer installed accessories though?

3x2 lift On 33’s KDMAXX PRO TUNE 10.0
So Yeah, I'm shopping Power running boards for my '23 ORP. I have the factory Predator step rails, and they are not very safe for shorter wives, and elderly folk. I have considered Budbuilt step boards, or RSG Flat boards. I love these for the added slider style protection since they bolt to the frame. But it does create a tall step for a 3'' lift and 34" tires. The drop height in the E boards coupled with a 6'' wide step, make a nice option for the step issue, while raising the profile back to the rocker height for a more tucked in look, which is what I want to achieve.
So I am really looking at all my options, and would like to hear differing opinions on the deferent brands , AMP, RC, etc. Another question is why the gap in price between the RC's and AMP, and is there a version that tucks behind the rocker?

I just joined the group and bought a 23 4Runner Limited yesterday. Nice vehicle and I am looking for the power steps as well. I have found that the AMP and RC versions do not fit the Limited, at least that is what the website chat folks are telling me. Anybody find a set that will work for the Limited?? I called the dealer back and they don't seem to carry them either......

The Toyota automatic running boards are a factory or port-installed option only.

I have these on my 21 limited. Yes, they are narrow. I have to turn my foot parallel to the car to get any footing.

I think it was 2 weeks back I was at the dealership and saw Limited and TRD Sport with Automatic Running Boards.

I doubt dealer is capable of installing Automatic running boards. It has some electronics involved where dash has a indicator light and warning if it didn't close. So the driver doesn't drive when it's still lowered.

Front mudflaps with retractable running boards
I saw somewhere on this website, the technique for moving the automatic runningboards back one and a half inches to allow for clearance for front mudflaps on our 2023 limited with retractable, runningboards. The dealer would not install them until I said, I will remove the runningboards then they agreed. (They had promised runningboards on all corners when we ordered the car.) I simply removed the four bolts mounting the runningboards, zip tied the rear mount up as the front mount is the motor and the rear mount is a slave. Took car to the dealer and had the front mudflaps installed. By simply loosening the mounting point on the bottom of the running board I was able to move the mounting blocks forward the appropriate amount (which moves the running board back), and the runningboards work/fit perfectly. With a little bit of snow we’ve had already it’s great to have the front front flaps on our new car. One caution, the four mounting bolts are a very fine thread into an aluminum block, which is on the under surface of the running board. They slide back-and-forth in a channel. One of the four screws broke and exercise, great caution, and gently work these screws out so as to avoid my mistake, should you try this.
