Hi! i was hoping i could get some help. Im going to look at and potentially buy an 02 Limited 4wd from someone about 3 hours away and was wondering how much rust is too much. It has 118k and i got him down to 5700. Its clean inside and out and mechanically but the slight rust has me concerned. Ill post some pictures below.

Initially that doesn't look bad at all to me. I would suggest scraping some of the grime and seeing what's underneath. If it's just grime/grease/dirt then clean it up and re oil it. Fluid film works good.

If that's undercoating covering older rust I'd pass. It just looks like grease and grime to me with not much rust.

doesn't look like slight rust too me. Those brake shields look like they are about to turn into dust, and why no pics of the place where rust is a problem. The bracket where the rear lower are attaches to the frame is the real concern, thats where many T4R's have big issues.

02 4 Runner Limited 4wd with 118kmiles ?????? Man that is low mileage for that truck.
I don't see anything that would scare me....especially for $5700.

If I bought it, I would spend some time under the truck working on the bad spots.
    Especially the fuel tank.
I would steel brush the rust and wipe with paint thinner, and then spray paint with this (or similiar) product.

    Just my opinion
    Hope this helps
