Removing sliding cargo tray

Hi all, new member here.
Thinking of purchasing an SR-5 Premium in the near future.
The sliding cargo tray seems like a great idea.
I know you can't remove the rails without a lot of difficulty.
But, can the tray itself be removed from the rails if you need the extra vertical space for a tall item?
Any other comments on the sliding cargo tray?
