How are you getting into the front fenders and rear wheel wells? When you spray the right fender does any fluid film end up in the air box? Thank you

Have you get it inside frame, that's important. And bottom of cab. After that everywhere. Inside air box not to worry if gets some.

Toyota body panels seem to be pretty durable and corrosion resistant, even in the salt belt. I didn’t bother with the body panels. It’s the frame that you really want to focus on.

It's like Franks Red Hot Sauce, I put it on everything underneath (minus exhaust).

Anyone do Fluid Film without an air compressor? Just using cans?

Me, it's not bad at all. I recommend eye protection either way.

I’m new to 4Runners but Fluid Film, and later on Surface Shield, have kept my 2005 LJ entirely rust free through 11 Minnesota winters.

4Runners seem to be much less susceptible to body rust than Jeeps but anywhere that salty road spray collects is at risk. The plastics rocker guards also look like they’ll have a potential to trap moisture.

My plan is to coat the underbody, door seams and inner frame with Fluid Film. The outside of the frame, axles, suspension, etc will receive Surface Shield.

I’ve found that Surface Shield sticks to surfaces much better that Fluid Film and will not be removed entirely with a pressure washer. The drawback with Surface Shield is that it takes a lot of work to remove. Surface shield also tends to get very thin in heat. If you spray it inside the frame, it will drip out at temps above 90 degrees. Similarly, if you spray it on surfaces above the exhaust, it’ll drip and create a nasty burning smell.

My advice would be to coat everything in the underside except for the brakes and exhaust. After you’ve driven on wet, salty roads get underneath and look for any areas that you may have missed.

I use the aerosol cans but a brush would be fine if you’re buying by the bucket. All you’re really doing is looking for unprotected areas that have collected salty road spray. If the area is wet or you see salt there, coat it.
