Portable air compressors

So my 35 year old ARB air compressor has given up the ghost. While I'm going to see if there's a way to coax it back into life, I may need to accept the fact that it's time to get something new.

Just wondering what everyone is using. Thor's Lightning looks intriguing, and there's always just paying extra to get an ARB unit, or...

 

What’s the use?

I have a dewalt portable compressor that works great, but it’s not in my 4runner. I have onboard ARB twin compressor for getting quick air ups done.

 

I chose the

Viair 400P. It airs up pretty fast, especially compared to the small compressor I carry in my Outback.

 

Oh look! Another thread on this exact topic just two weeks ago. How fortuitous.

 

Looking for airing up. Not sure I want to mount it up at this point in time.

 

I use a Viair 300P I customized. It's been fine for my needs. It takes about 2 minutes per tire to get my 295's from 12 up to 35 PSI.

Otherwise, a few guys I know use the 88P without issues.

 

What does fortuitous mean?

 

Hey @bassist, I run a simple portable 120v Craftsman truck tire pump from Lowe's. Bungie corded on top of the rear passenger trunk wheel. Typically plug it into the 400w outlet

Okay, I discovered something.

My old one still works - I had not connected the air hose before starting it.

*facepalm*

 

I know it over buts its all i got. But I am now looking into. That Vlair unit for sure

 

Ran across an excellent accessory for my Viair 88P or any other compressor where the hose screws on to the tire valve. This self-locking, quick release extension, available for $8 on Amazon, is way faster to attach/detach and also features a deflation button.




Also, my 88P didn't come with a case and many reviews that mentioned the Viair case complained about how tight it was to get the compressor, power cord, and air hose back in once it was out. I noticed this Ozark Trail 360 tackle bag for ~$21 at Walmart and it's perfect. The 88P and my Jaco deflator fit in the main section, a small toolkit in the front pocket, and there's plenty of room left. Bonus: inside it are 4 plastic compartmentalized storage boxes meant for lures and such but ideal for small parts, screws, washers, etc.

Nice dude! Happy I saw this, I'm totally gunna buy a quick release extendo. Like today. Thanks, no idea why I didn't do this earlier having to twist my damn 4R pump hose so much

The quick release mechanism on the first one posted is nicer, IMO.
