I have a 1998 Toyota 4Runner Limited. The engine seized. I am thinking about putting a new engine in or trying to sell it without the engine. What do you think? I’ve had the car in the family for 20 years so we know everything that’s right and wrong with it. It seems risky to try to go out and find Another used car under $5000.

#1 You put this in the wrong section.
#2 If you have the money and the availability of another engine, replace it. You won't get much for the vehicle without a good engine.

On my rig, everything is in perfect mechanical shape. It is a 4x4. It has no rust. I've had it since new. I would definitely spend $5k or so to drop a replacement engine in it as I can't get a similar 4x4 for that.

If the car is rusty, has other issues, I'd reconsider.

As many above have stated in this current economy, With what you know about the vehicle, Investing in a new engine would probably be best teh best option.

myself, unless you have some rust issues with the frame, I would 'pop' for a used / new engine...after all, you're very familiar with this vehicle..

Edit: misinterpreted this as asking if you should replace the engine before selling or sell as is. I would replace the engine because better the devil you know, you won’t know the history of another vehicle as well.

If your selling it, just sell it with the seized engine. Making your money back isn’t guaranteed, so why go through the trouble if your selling it anyway.
