Any of you offroaders have the old original 4th gen gas tank skid plate you changed out, laying in the back of your garage. I need one. Mine is nearly PA road salt rust destroyed. It’s ugly!

    Is aftermarket not an option?

Pretty pricey! Can’t find one in any boneyards. Thought sure somebody would have a takeoff.

Ebay might be your best bet in that case.

I removed my factory one ,2003 limited V8, last summer, cleaned, primed and painted it. Kept it on there for a couple months with zero driving while I built the machine.

I would give it to you to get it out of my garage. Extremely good condition. Louisville KY area. I have both factory skids too.

I even have a set of brand new, driven on 37 miles, factory running boards for a 5th gen too. They're sitting next to the above 4th gen parts.

Honestly I'd give it to you free.

Or free 99 as a friend of mine says it.

What I do not want to do is pack this thing up and mail it. If there is a way you can get it, I'd even meet you at the nearest interstate exit for the hand off.

Reason being, I know how bad it sucks to try and find parts sometimes. And I have built too many of these things over the years and have entirely too many extra/spare/take offs in my garage and would be happy to help someone out.

Edit: From your description it sounds like your mounting bolts will be interesting to get out. It's probably a good time to start spraying them with Kroil or PB now, and keep doing it daily for a few days before you try to remove them.

I snapped quite a few, had to clean up the threads of most or just generally fought nearly every bolt on my 4th gen while I was removing everything underneath to repair/replace or upgrade this build.

Patience and quality tools are a must.

    And Woodford Reserve for after.

I replaced my factory skid with the RCI version. Bolted nicely, tough as hell and got it on sale.

Again, you are more than welcome to have mine, I can send you my cell# and send you pictures if you actually want it. I have no idea of the mileage for you/gas used etc. but like the above poster said, maybe buying aftermarket is better?

It's entirely up to you though, best of luck.

Yeah right gettin it is a problem. I’m 30 miles east of Pittsburgh. My daughter lives in Nashville. You ever head south on occasion? Don’t know how to give you my # on here without being seen by everyone.

Yeah, I'd agree the mileage isn't worth it. An aftermarket version is a lot stronger and thicker anyways tbh.

It really sucks we're so far apart, I'd love to see someone use it.

The dust on the inside where the tank is usually is free too. I sat a bunch of old parts in it earlier this year.

Made a pretty good parts tray.

Yep. What if I paid you to box it up and mail it? Plus paid shipping. I seriously can’t find anything for less than $250. Just worth askin.

Yeesh, It's not heavy it's just kinda large and flexy so it would take quite a packing job to get it there in good shape. I'll do a little looking and get back with you if I can find a way to do it reasonably.

It's honestly a lot of trouble to find the correct box and figure out a way to pack it correctly, but I'll check it out.

Might be a couple of days till I get back with you on it.

Hey thanks I appreciate it. I’m in no rush In the mean time I’ll check to see what ground shipping is. It’s probably less than 50 lbs right? If you don’t wanna mess with it I understand.

Might look around for Labor Day sales from some of the various armor manufacturers.

It's way more trouble and expense to mail this thing than it's worth. And they're not worth much tbh, sorry.

I live in Northern Virginia and have one. It’s not a terrible drive if you want to come grab it.
