Is it possible to dye the top section? The rest of it has no wear like that on the leather.
I have seen full replacements... but not wanting to drop that kind of $ at this time.
Also, this is already a pretty fat sheering wheel (good) so I think adding a cover on top of it would be too much.IMG_6742.jpg

I have never heard of anyone dying one, but welcome to the forum Mark.

    welcome.
1 your options for repair is to remove the existing vinyl and replace with new cover of your choosing on the core itself. Work but doable.
2 put a cover on top of the existing wheel. Which i agree, wish these were smaller diameter/narrower.
3 Buy a new steering wheel somewhere, ebay, or fancy aftermarket one and replace full thing. Fancy ones start around 250$ i've seen, stock ones are less out there.
4 If you're talking about dying it, just taking off and spray painting/dying it or something is also an option. Not sure if it would look exactly they way you are thinking with it flaking apart like that.

Why can’t a auto upholstery shop fix it with new vinyl or leather ?

Would cost more than buying another wheel.

A good upholstery shop should be able to clean, condition and refinish that tiny leather part for a few bucks in 2 hrs. Leave it like new.
