Port installed options, does the dealer have a say?

Just curious, I have seen some mention of port installed options. Is this something the dealership has control over? Or do they get installed regardless? I have a Pro on order that is due in to port here soon. The sales person told me there won’t be anything else added in port and I am hoping that stays the case. The only options so far are the rear sliding tray and the 4Runner cooler. Hoping some of the other stuff doesn’t get tacked on.

The dealership does have say over port installed options. In my recent purchase experience, the dealer I bought from did not have a blue ORP on their lot. They sourced two that recently arrived at the port of Jacksonville, and shared the specs on each with me. One had the sunroof, standard rear cargo area, and no KDSS. Meanwhile, the other had a sunroof, KDSS and the sliding cargo deck.

I told them I wanted the KDSS/sliding cargo deck one. This one did not have the optional double USB outlet in the dash, a port installed option that I did want.

The dealership communicated that they wanted that item installed before it got in their hands. A few days later, the dealership sent me the official window sticker which now had the USB outlet listed.

in my negotiations, I also got a couple of accessories included at no cost. One of which was the cargo cover (not initially listed on the specs of the rig that I chose) Somehow, that too was added to the window sticker, with the USB port. I thought they would just source a cover from their parts department, but they went this route instead.

I had to remind the dealership that they were giving this to me for no extra cost, and the dealership made a point to subtract $189 from the cost of the vehicle when I went to take delivery.

Thanks for the info! I forget about the extra USB ports which I feel would come in handy.

What's promised on the pdf you got from the dealer is what you should get. But dealership should be flexible imo to add more if you need since so many things get added to TRD Pro at the port as it doesn't get fully built in Japan like other 4runner trims from the pics I see.

You are welcome. I was not expecting to have any say over exactly which PIO’s I could get. I was expecting to eventually find a blue ORP one with some port options that I wanted, and other things that I wouldn’t necessarily choose. In all, having the ability to customize my rig a bit before it got to me was the most positive part of the buying experience.

I bought a vehicle that was allocated to the dealer and in transit. The dealer asked if I wanted to change of the PIOs, but I didn't want to change anything enough to re-open the price negotiation.

Maybe if dealer wanted even TRD Pro Fox suspension can be installed to other trims. By seeing the paint marking on mine and pics of TRD Pro at the port looks like they are installed locally.
(My paint marks are faded because this is over 2 years old.)

Exactly how it worked for me as well, I added dual usb and emblem overlays and got rid of a couple port options as well. The dealer sent me a new link to my truck optioned exactly how I requested it.

Unless it’s Southeast Toyota Distributors or Gulf States Region, dealers can add or remove port-installed options up until it arrives at the port.

My experience with SE Toyota was take it or leave it with port installed options. I wonder why they do business that way?

Could be because out of the three distributors for Toyota in the US only Toyota motor sales US is corporate the other two are private.

Just got mine at a Gulf States dealer and was able to remove all the port options. It was over 3 grand of crazy options.
