Wax oil

    About 400 miles on it.
    Going to try to protect it from the only thing that can kill it.

    Envious of your shop with a lift. Under coating it yourself from the beginning with the ability to do it yourself should take care of it. I luckily don't have to worry about rust. Everything I read and hear it's all about coating when new and annually re spraying.

    I forgot what a new 4Runner undercarriage looks like....the only downside to Wool Wax/Fluid Film is the build up on the frame over the years. But, its better then rust.

    Make sure you get the frame internals as well.

    The layers it gets over the years is a beautiful thing. It carries a visual history of the terrain it’s traversed. Lol. And it’s nice knowing that underneath it, after a bit of wiping down with paper towel and wd-40, is a pristine factory frame with original paint.

    This is when I wiped it clean to repaint a few spots that touched down on rocks.

    Was thinking about getting a product called NH Oil (NHOU) applied to my 2016 4Runner by an authorized shop. Some light rust already exists on the undercarriage. From pictures, the product creates a mess, but it seems to protect the vehicle and prevents further progression of existing rust.

    Maybe a dumb question, but: anyone ever heard of Toyota dealership service departments or independent mechanics decline to work on a vehicle (for regular maintenance) that was such an oily mess underneath?

    As someone who has worked on many rusty cars, I'd much prefer one that was oily.
    I've never hears of someone refusing to work on a treated car. Most shops offer it as a service.

    Oil? No. Mechanics are used to seeing various oil leaks from older cars. They'll be thankful when bolts come out without breaking.

    Ironically, avoid the tar-like thick undercoatings offered by the dealer. Over successive applications, they build up a hardened layer over fluid fittings and wiring connectors. Some shops will decline working on those.

    Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure of the exact consistency of the substance, but I think it (NH Oil) is a thick gel-like substance, applied annually. Definitely not my area of expertise, so I could be wrong in likening it to an oily mess. In any case, sounds like this isn't something that would turn off mechanics.

    I did have a dealer try to deny a warranty claim on a creaking 2022 Tacoma spring and said it was the Wool Wax I applied.

    I laughed, went to another dealer and they fixed my issue.

    Probably doing wool wax this time over fluid film. Had fluid on my 20 4runner and 21 tundra pro. My 23 4runner changing it up.
