How much power will this OBD GPS tracker consume? How to get rid of it?

I've had a couple new vehicle purchases with similar devices installed. It's likely either 1)a device that allows the many sales-folk easy access to the vehicle while on the lot, or 2)an up-sell item for the F&I guy. Probably not anything nefarious, just a remnant of the time on the dealer's lot.

My 2nd gen Tacoma had one and I removed it including cutting out the device and reconnecting wires via crimp connectors in the way intended from the factory.

They're not going to do anything until you take it in and show them what you want taken off. While you're there, take a look at any other new 4Runners on the lot to see if they have this device.

If I remember correctly I believe that the salesperson had told us about this in the event that the vehicle gets stolen they can track it right away before any thing happens to it. I don't know if the tracking is permanent or for a period of time. I will have to check back with him as well because I think he mentioned something about it being renewed at the owners cost I am not sure. I will find out hopefully this weekend. Also can you tell me exactly where this is located at?

I installed that same module in my truck but it was for a remote start. That was the cellular module used to start the truck with a cell phone. It was from Carlink.

2014 Neglected by the previous owners 2020 is an abused former rental... 2023 New I've been buying above my pay grade ☹️
I had an ELO GPS unit on one certified used vehicle I bought 3 hours away on the other side of Los Angeles (the worst Toyota dealership I've ever come across, Thousand Oaks Toyota). I always expressly have dealerships remove any alarm or tracking systems before I take delivery of the car. Those are devices that can brick your car. I managed at a production facility and would assist employees whose cars were bricked, mostly by the KARR system.

I got home and discovered the GPS unit was in there while I was installing my dash cam system. They sent a technician down, 6 hours, 220 miles round trip of driving to remove it after I threatened to take it out myself. My guess is that the so-called proprietary hardware could end up in the wrong hands and somebody like me could tell everybody how simple it was to remove.

I paid cash for the vehicle and there was no financial interest on their part to track a vehicle that had no insurable interest in.

A lot of finance companies do have tracking devices on vehicles and have every legal right to do so.

Sometimes manufacturers will disclose what the milliAmp draw is on a device, even if it is not active.

I remember your earlier posts about finding the parasitic draw. I hope there's a reasonable explanation for why it's there, but I agree others that I would expect the dealer to remove it at their own cost.

Mine came with one as the dealer-added “Technology Package” and was billed as “like a LoJack”. I didn’t pay for it and popped that sucker out ASAP. Just opened the door, moved key fob out of range, let it sit for ten minutes, and fished it out. Figure between Toyota and my phone my wife already has plenty of options to find me…

I did a quick check of my '22 ORP and only see the white OBD connector, but I didn't fish around to see if there was anything else attached. Does that mean I do not have a GPS tracker?

So @danielmiao - did you ever take your 4R back to the dealer where you bought it? If not, I see no point to this thread.

The dealer where I bought my new truck told me GPS tracker is installed by 1st dealer in the following service record
    toyota-service-record-PDI-2.jpg
So I just removed it and restored the OEM OBD port back to the frame now
