On the hunt for a 4Runner, and come come across what that appears to feel like textured/wavy paint at the bottom edge of the door (outter side). Going over all 4 doors are like that, it’s below the curved portion. No imperfections.

Was this something Toyota did for rock chip protection? Because I am finding results that this is apparently normal on the Tacoma/Tundra?

Apparently results seem to indicate if you didn’t have OEM side steps that this was done in factory? Can anyone confirm? Because a SR5 (with side steps) did not appear to have this while a limited did (no side steps).

Anyone able to confirm and provide some insight?

Found a photo, looks like this basically.

Ive had a 19 ORP that came with step/running board and have a 22 ORP that didn't. Both came with the textured panel.

Okay so the textured panel stuff is factory. What had me wondering at first when I saw it if it was painted after the fact to correct rust or something, but then I saw all 4 doors which I figured couldn’t have been. But I’m also seeing some 4Runners that don’t have it which causes the questioning, lol.

But based on your info and what I’m seeing online seems like a factory thing for one reason or another.

Yep My 2020 TRD Pro has that, great rock chip protection from Factory.

I think it’s like truck bed liner applied before painting? If rocks chip the paint, presumably it won’t rust down there due to the coating?

My 2023 ORP does have the textured panels. It also has a clear plastic overlay across bottom of all doors a little taller than the texturing. The plastic overlay must be additional rock/chip protection although I didn’t pay for any and it wasn’t listed as an option. I had the textured panels on my 2016 Tacoma so I am familiar with them but the texturing was thicker on my Tacoma. Lunar Rock and dirty.

2022 ORP has the same texture and plastic cover. 2018 SR5 4WD does not.

I'm pretty sure that my 23 Pro doesn't have the textured paint but does have the clear PPF. I'll have to double-check when I get home. I did have Factory-Installed running boards on my allocation vs Port-Installed running boards.

The textured paint is hard to see. I originally said I didn’t have it. Took a picture to show clear PFF. Saw the texturing in the picture. I had to get very low to see it. ‍

Here is another one for you guys. Did the dash color’s for the 4x4 symbols change in years or trims?

‘16 Limited is H4F but when you turn it to H4L the dash light blinks orange and then turns solid orange to indicate on? Another unit I saw this light was green? Same sequences, flashes green then turns solid green. Is this accurate or something odd here?
