He's saying you're mistaken. 2nd gen Tacoma and 5th gen 4Runner have the same transmission.

In fact, the 4R might be one of the last new cars with a 5 speed AT.

    4Runner has a 5 speed auto, not 6.

Had a buddy let me take his 2020 4Runner TRD Pro out for a drive today. Deffinitely a noticeably different ride from my 2020 Tacoma DCLB.

Is it bad to want both? :D

I own a 2022 Tacoma and recently had it in the shop. While there they provided a 4Runner. So good chance to compare.

The 4Runner had a roof rack whereas mine doesn’t and I noticed more wind noise. Ride was similar, of course it appears to be more roomy especially in back seat area. Performance was similar, and had same sluggishness on acceleration but not quite as bad as 3rd Gen. Shifting similar again and overall drivability not bad but definitely would benefit from a tune. My Tacoma has the KDMAX Pro tune and you can definitely tell the difference between stock and a tuned vehicle.

Boils down to seating capacity to me. If you need more room than your Tacoma then it’s a good fit. Keeps in Toyota family and still a capable Offroad vehicle!
