Roadtrip to Wyoming this July!

Hey All,

I'm stoked, gonna be making a big trip up through NV, UT, Wyoming, then back down through Colorado. My son, my dog and myself. Camping the whole way. I'd love to share my route and planning if anyone is interested. Also I'd love to compare notes with anyone that's been recently. One thing in particular is I'm wondering how the snow pack is up north of the Teton range specifically Cave Falls trail and the Ashton Flagg Ranch Lake Road trail. For example are the gates open and how much snow is still on the ground? Never been north of Utah in this rig so I'm looking forward to some beautiful country and dispersed camping.

 

Just looked at ON X Offroad trail reports and Ashton Flagg was open on 6/11 but then temporarily close on 6/13. Im guessing it will be open by the time you get up there but might be worth investing in OnX and checking recent trail reports for the trip. Know Before You Go!

 

Yeah, thanks, I'm a user of onX offroad too. Totally agree it's worth the investment. Such a great tool. I live or die by that and trails offroad for my planning. But to your point that's kinda why I was asking. That open then close again situation seemed weird so I was hoping someone with first hand knowledge might enlighten me.

 

Welcome. That road trip will be really nice. Some of the trails in Utah are not fully open yet, the last time I checked. Some of these closures are due to trail damage and not snow pack. The spring/summer runoff has been pretty harsh this year. Things change daily, so I’d make sure to check the day before you’re traveling a specific trail.

 

That's good advice, thanks! Yeah if something is closed we'll just have to call an audible and move on. I am trying to jot down the ranger station numbers for each area and check in with them when en route. Where about's in Utah are you?

How'd the trip go?

 

It was great, thanks. Nothing broke, camping was great. This was my 2nd big trip where I connected existing trails together to form an overlanding experience. I took a $h*t ton of video and I’m working on the edit currently. I’ll post the link once it’s complete. For now here is a little test video I did.
