KDSS

I now have a TRD Off Road Premium that has KDSS, which I did not have on my Venture. I like the KDSS stability. If the system were to stop functioning I should know it by the ride. My question is whether there is also any display on the dash warning when the system stops functioning. I don't see much discussion of KDSS in the manual.

Yes there is a warning light.

 

It stops at like 110.

 

I hit about 110-115 in my '03. I don't go over 99 in my '19 because the tires are only rated for 99.

 

When I had the stock HT's I got up over 100 but now with my C load I don't go much passed 90.

Love my KDSS

 

I used to top out all my vehicles just to see where it stops. My '04 JGC had a fuel cutoff at 113. I'm not as wild as I was in my younger days so haven't hit the governor in the 4runner or the '14 JGC.

Luckily I don't think I've seen a "how to disable the governor" thread on here so maybe others are being responsible.

 

I drove my Venture with no KDSS for 2.5 years. This new Off Road with KDSS is a huge improvement in stability. I'm loving it.

 

Per dashcam gps while speedo show little closer to 120. (Stock tires). Doesn't go beyond that.

Lol good to know these speeds! Man I don't even know how fast I've pushed the Toyota? Last time I went over 200kms/125 mph was when I told my passenger I'm gunna break my Dodge SX 2.0 speed record - 10 sec later straight into a road block at the bottom of the hill.

 

With the right tools you can increase the speed limiter on the T4R. 5th gens are set to 175 kph (~109 mph) from the factory.

Just because you can change it, doesn’t mean you should.

Some modifications like regears can actually confuse the vehicle computer and impose a lower speed limiter. For example, on 3rd Gen Tacomas a 5.29 regear will limit them to about 83 mph even though computer set to 113 mph.

Hard to imagine that brick even got that kind of speed.

 

I test drove a trans am at carmax a loooong time ago and was telling the salesman on the drive about how far off the speedo on my explorer was with the larger tires (i was lifted with 32x11.50 OG BFG KO's). I was registering 90 but blew past my girlfriend at the time on the interstate, who later told me she was doing 90. I told him I was probably doing 100-105 based on how quickly I passed her.

He then proceeded to lecture me on how it was aerodynamically impossible for a brick shaped SUV like that to go over 100 mph. He said he even struggled to get his Ford focus RS hatchback over 100 mph. After arguing with him for a while I told him he's just an idiot that doesn't know what he's talking about... and that he doesn't know how to drive his car.
