I've had 12.5k intervals come back with glowing reports from Blackstone and the oil was supertech walmart brand sugar buns

You'd be a fool to trust college educated engineers with years of automotive design experience working for a world class car and truck company building some of the most reliable automobiles in the world when you've got morfdq's brother-in-law to tell you when to change your oil...

Show the report. Come on. Post the report. Well then he’ll why stop at 12.5. You could easily go 20k. I recommend you do that. You find me one mechanic JUST ONE that thinks that is a good idea and I’ll concede.

You bought a toyota with the most reliable engine/trans ever, you won't need a warranty.

Lol. So you trust an engineer over a mechanic that has to deal with what that engineer designed. You’re hysterical no you’re a rookie. I’ve seen your type before.

So no research then? But if I'm going to be spewing that I do research that proves I'm right you damn well bet I'm going to prove it.

Just to be transparent. I don't change at 10k or 5k. I change once a year because I never hit 10k. Some years I'm at 3k some goes all the way up to 6+k. I have my opinion on those who say it absolutely needs to be done at 5k but its their choice.

I use Royal Purple. Its probably over kill but eh its once a year so why not. Also use Wix oil filters.

Not sure why all your posts resorts to name calling. Agree to disagree thats what happens.

I can’t find the post of the lady who said….and it was Walmart oil. I want to thank you for proving my point. I’m debating rookies. ROOKIES. I’d buy a car serviced at jiffy lube before I bought a car from you ROOKIES. Hahahahaha. I bet you paired that up with a Fram oil filter didn’t you.

Hey to be fair. If I disrespected you. I apologize Royal Purple paired with a wix is golden. That’s a winning combo there. Wix is a top notch filter. I apologize if I disrespected you

I only use AMSOIL but only if i get all 7 quart bottles signed by Alan Amatuzio, the CEO of AMSOIL. I won't put a quart in my 4R that ain't autographed. Adds 4k more miles.

Filters, it doesn't matter. I save up all my cigarette butts and just pack them in there. But only American Spirit Blues. I reckon if they filter out lung cancer they can handle a little engine dust.

    I got thick skin I don't care.

Just pointing it out everyone here argues just no need to call names. Prolly what gets people banned the most. I've never been (knock on wood) but I speak my mind also.

If I sign it you get 4.1k more miles.

The 4k is just an estimate, one time he didn't use a Sharpie (I prefer American Made markers) and it definitely caused some knocking.

If anyone is going to the Toyota jamboree next year we will finish this debate (joke). This is my first 4 runner ever. My wife and I have put 40k miles on it in 1 year. We went this year to the jamboree and it is great. Really good people there. We plan on going again next May. We did a 8 state 3 month trip last year and put 9k miles on it then. And before someone asks. No I didn’t change the oil during the trip.

30 years as a Ford Service Mgr, we never requested maintenance records UNLESS the engine was sludged. They always accepted DIY records as long as it was documented with time and mileage, and had the receipts for oil and filter.

When the dealership called me to tell me my first oil change was due on my Tacoma I told them I do them myself. The service dept was very good and said that is no issue. They even told me what needs to be documented and recommended I get a small notebook to log everything in and staple receipts to. The service writer said the only issue people would run into would be a lack of maintenance and if this was the case, it would be very obvious by the state of the oil and engine.
