I'm going to chronicle the doings and mods on my 2016 4R Limited. And access the wealth of knowledge within these walls. Lot-o-questions will be asked!
    This is her currently.

I purchased this 2016 late in July. It's going to be what I consider to be my forever vehicle. So I'm trying to to things right, and with as much quality as I can afford.

Not a lot done yet. I replaced the cabin and engine air filter with K&N. Cabin air filter was really bad. Engine, not so much. We did a short road trip last week and I got about 15.5 mpg. Hoping the new engine air filter helps boost that a bit. All of the fluids are good and oil so clean I could barely see it. In a few weeks I will be driving it from TX to VA r/t. it'll be about a 5k road trip when it's all said and done.

When I purchased her she had a tire warning light on. Mild concern. Took it in yesterday to have tires spun and balanced. They informed me it was my spare sensor not reading. She also had some pretty fierce curb rash on front right. Cost for new wheel versus resurfacing I opted to have it redone. Will find out Friday what it looks like. So now I know my spare is good as I am running on it now. Always good info to have. And no low tire warning. Yay me.

    The foofy stuff...

So here goes. I purchased the cross bars for roof rack for trip mentioned above. I have some larger items to tote with me and I must have room for my girl Kona (beautiful Choco Lab~ LOVE her)
my constant companion. I'd really like to get the cage or basket roof rack but that entails more decisions I'm not ready to make right now. I will for sure find the buy/sell/trade thread soon!

    IMG_1656.jpg IMG_1655.jpg

Interior: I've installed glove box and center console organizers, center console heavy duty arm rest cover to save it from the 90lb lab hooves where she likes to stand. Also the matching bag holder between the seats. Rear boot mat. I'm running the Quadloc vent mount phone charger/holder. Don't care for it at all but I'm trying to force myself to like Apple play. It's a struggle so far and it doesn't always auto connect to the after market system that is in my 4R. If I can learn to live with Apple play I'll do away with any kind of mount at all. I think I'll get an under the rear view mirror hanging unit for long road trips. I have the full interior LED conversion kit just haven't done it yet. Maybe wait until I get to VA. My son and I like to tinker with my vehicles. My MINI is in his garage now. Long story. I received the all window shade kit today. I don't mind napping in my truck if no-one can walk up and see me. IF she lets me nap. Doubtful. Tomorrow the window vents arrive as well as the smoked out third break light that pulses. I learned today my OEM paint color is 218 Attitude Black Mica. My son says that is SO fitting for me. In line with the break light I am going to tint rear break lights. I am contemplating Plasti Dipping the chrome strip across the rear so the only rear facing silver will be the 4Runner emblem. And my personalized plate that arrived at the county today. RNR4PG. It's black and silver TX plate. I think it'll look hot!

The most expensive MOD to date gets done next Thursday. Full ceramic window tint including a deep brow AND front clear bra. :spending:It's pricey but I really don't want to chip up that black paint with blue metal flecks in it. I would not have chosen black paint but this truck was a good deal, to me anyway. And damn it's pretty when it's clean. Tint and bra comes with life time warranty and the guy has done both of my MINIs. He does quality work and he's a hoot.

I have a few more items on my wish list. I'll update as I go. And post some pics.

I'm also trying to come up with a name for this black beauty. For the last 15 years I've driven MINIs and they ALL have names

Just purchased OEM mud flaps after reading the confusing thread about fitment on Limited models. Will update in a month or so. I had them sent to my sons house so he and I will install.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Lose the K&N engine filter if you’re looking for longevity. They are good for airflow, lousy at filtering. There is no free lunch.

Interesting. I’ve not had issues with previous K&N filters. And nowhere near a free lunch at $68 for an engine air filter. After this extended road trip I’ll see how she does with MPG and go from there.

    Personally I wouldn’t run a K&N on anything I planned to keep.
Project Farm did testing on various brands and K&N came in a distant last in filtering and first in flow.
I bought a freshly rebuilt ATV and the first thing I did was to pull the K&N and replace it wit a quality foam filter. The K&N is now filtering my disc sander.
They are great for racing, they keep boulders out but do almost nothing for fine dust.

if you want to have it as forever vehicle, once a year change for air filter MAX THRUST SPEARHEAD. Engine damage from poor air filtration is not immediately apparent. Same idea for oil TGMO: 5K versus 10K. Devil in small details: radio screen protection, stainless steel screws on license plate light, air conditioner drain down over frame, oil catch can, anti seize compound on all maintenance threads (steel/aluminum), and king of all: Fluid film. Good to have PPF on roof and hood - birds poop very aggressive to clear coat paint.

Disagree on oil, I do 10k changes with synthetic, well over 300k trouble free miles.

K&N are fine for regular old school carburetors. But you want OEM or AEM dry filter at most for your 4R. The oil in the K&N can cause issues, let alone it takes time for them to filter properly.

Glad you qualified for 10K in accordance with Toyota book and glad that you using TGMO. Not many like that. I tow a boat and 5K TGMO is norm for me.

Set up return of K&N. I’m looking at this MAX THRUST SPEARHEAD. I am totally down with not doing the whole wash/clean/oil/dry time thing.

I’m wondering if in my MINI Cooper world they were so gung ho about K&N because we raiced our cars. I auto crossed. Let’s just say we did very spirited group drives. I drove by MINI‘s hard.

I always appreciate the input from experienced owners.

I'm generally not a fan of the Ltd trim, but those wheels and tires really make it look sharp. Hopefully they are able to fix the curb rash. Love your pup as well!

Aside from a few parts of the Limited trim I didn’t care for this truck had everything else I wanted. I’m thinking about blacking out the chrome on the front, rear, and door handles leaving only the thin chrome around the base. I’m not a fan of the totally blacked out look and the thin chrome bits around the bottom should make the wheels pop a bit more. I’ll wait to see what the clear bra looks like. I’m going to inquire about smoked or darker film on chromed parts. Another reason I bought this was the 20s. I haven’t gotten the wheel back yet but anything’s better than it was.

TGMO has 800 units of Molybdenium, and M1 has only 90. However Exxon achieved a high level of lubricity by their science research. where Moly in TGMO intended to fill fine scratches and caverns in metal surfaces appeared during break-in period. and that contributes a lot, if not all, to longevity of the engine. (Amsoil has 200)

    Oh please stop it.
OP considered to make his T4R to be forever vehicle, not some measly 300k miles.
    Please end this thread.

You’ve got yourself a beautiful truck, congrats! I loved my ‘14 Limited when I bought it but I do love it more now with the blacked out bumper and few other minor tweaks.

I think this is what mine looked like new. Previous owner installed the tires and wheels. Still haven’t gotten the road rash wheel back.

How did you black out your bits? I’m planning on PlastiDip to do mine. I’ll post pics of the process if I do it.

AVS in channel window visors. ✅

I may have to redo psg side front as the packaging these came in was stuck to the red tape covering and even tho I re applied it, doesn’t feel as secure as the rest. It’ll be sitting in TX heat today so hopefully it’ll seat in securely.
