I've been removing my (Greenlane) sliders every year before winter to make sure there is nothing funky going on with the frame under the mounting plates. Last year there were a few spots I used metal protectant on, this year I imagine there will be more. Any feedback on good a good match for the color and gloss? I have no problem cleaning, sanding and painting the outer surfaces, I just don't want it to become a rabbit hole.

When I did mine, I used a product called Rust Bullet. It's held up great over the past 3 years, I'm very happy with it. The thing with that though is that it's silver, so you need to top coat it with your choice of color. I think if I were to do it again I would try the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator paint, which is black and may be available specifically in "chassis black", since Eastwood specializes in auto restoration products.

Is the rust just on the flats of the frame rails? If so,’it should be easy access to sand down to bright shiny metal, the spray a little zinc rich primer, and top coat with rustoleum or something similar. When you put the sliders back on, it might be a good idea to slather on a bunch of woolwax over the contact points of the slider, so there is a good layer sandwiched in there.

I took my sliders off for the first time to paint them. The woolwax I put behind them looked freshly applied, and when wiped away revealed perfect factory finish. The’ve only been on for two years, but so far so good

edit: the rest of the frame is also rust free. All the brown stuff is what woolwax looks like after it’s aged after running through muddy water and such

I pulled my sliders off a month ago to prime and apply bed liner to them. I had Fluid Filmed the frame prior to install a few years and there was zero corrosion when I removed the sliders. I plan to Wool Wax the area before I reinstall again.
