Totally agree with ya'll. Every manufacturer is in a race to the top of oversize mountain. From body, to massive wrap around headlights with extra led junk, huge ugly taillights, and of course 500pt font size tailgate logos.
I want to experience the new low end torque and horsepower, minus the owning part. I'm worried about what direction Toyota design takes the 6th Gen, disagree with me - tell me you love these:

Toyota says the LC250 will only have 8.3 inches of ground clearance. It's in the reveal video. Here's a screenshot. For those looking for more ground clearance, a Subaru Outback has 8.7 inches.

 

I don’t understand why Toyota would put out a legendary named vehicle with lame ground clearance? Makes you think the design team doesn’t expect anyone to go off road? Or the design team doesn’t value ground clearance? Both are hard to believe.

 

I'm curious as to how they measure it. I'm wondering if they measure it from the rear pumpkin, and this has a beefy rear differential. Perhaps that would account for the low sounding ground clearance.

 

The 2024 Tacoma has a 9.5" rear diff to handle the hybrid torque. If the LC uses the same rear diff, it'll be a big increase over the 8" on current models and may reduce the ground clearance. But that's ok since you can smash the rear diff on rocks with no issue - the diff housing is a jacking point and can easily support the truck's weight.

 

What gives me some hope is that the Tacoma doesn’t have a grill the size of a continent, and it overall looks pretty good.

In fact, since both the tacoma and LC have non-absurd grills, it may finally mean that decades long trend is over!

Also, the tacoma’s tailgate doesn’t have another tailgate for its tailgate. So that’s good lol

 

I had a '94 pickup with an open diff. I think the ground clearance was under 9" back then (can't remember, and couldn't find a good source from Google). I went anywhere I wanted to go. Two thirds of an inch less shouldn't be a deal-breaker, it's as much about the driver and technique as it is about ground clearance.
