This every year limited? Are they known to fail and when they do can regular shocks be installed in place?

No. They occasionally fail, but not with a frequency that would elevate the failures anywhere close to a “known issue”. A big deal gets made out of it because XREAS is expensive to repair. (Same with KDSS).

Yes, XREAS can be replaced with regular shocks.

Every year Limited has XREAS. Some people would argue it’s known to “fail” but the reality is shocks are a wear item, the system is just prohibitively expensive to repair because it’s not serviceable so it requires replacement.

It has no sensors, control modules, or electronics of any kind so it can replaced with any 5th Gen suspension without issue.

yes they all have this. If you’re ok with not having the Xreas system you can use what ever shock will fit a 4Runner for much less. Mine lasted 70k some people have had them go out at 50k. As said before it’s wear item just like any shocks. Just know they will go out at sometime and it will most likely be under 100,000 miles. If you find a used limited with leaking shocks use it to your advantage to get them to come down. They can’t argue it’s not 5k to fix it and make it the same as a stock limited. It’s also good to know that the Toyota extended warranty does cover it if you find a used one that qualifies for it or already has it.

Bwahah. If a 1-2 mpg difference makes a difference to your wallet, maybe buying an suv altogether isn’t in your plans.

Thanks fellas. And I assume the TRD Off-road trim uses regular shocks in place?

I’ve stumbled on that trim bud of course it lacks some of the features the limited has I’m after.

Forget mpg. Just decide what features you want and look for the model that has those.

The only models that have different shocks are Limited & Sport With Xreas, and Pro with Fox.

Among the things important to you appear to some of the distinguishing interior accouterments of the Limited, you prefer its looks, and the drivetrain is best suited to your winter conditions. I think your choice is fairly clear.

Thanks, I do prefer the Limited over other trims.

Any specific areas of rust on these vehicles? I found a couple now and seem to find rust on the tailgate above the Toyota emblem, around the lower edge of trunk door (inside lip can only be seen if trunk door is opened). And some had rust on the inside door where basically where the door paneling is down on the edge side and down of door lip.

Nah, soccer moms go for a nice Town n Country minivan with remote opening sliding rear doors and tailgate, and 12 cup holders. Although it is a little suspicious that the 4Runner has a lighted vanity mirror on the driver’s side.

actually American moms don't go for vans when they absolutely should. that's why we have 95% of SUVs morphing into compromised mini vans.

Absolutely, vans are way more practical but I wouldn't be caught dead driving one or driving a limited for that matter.

Odd statement for someone who has 'why all the hate' in their bio. I would be just fine with a limited, and probably should have bought one. I like the creature comforts and the 4wd system would be just fine for what I need it for (and what 95% of people need it for). I'll pull out the Canam XMR if i want to go rip through the mud and trails.

Years ago I drove a Town and Country mini van as a rental. It was really comfortable, and so practical with second and third row seats that folded into the floor to leave a flat enormous load space. I’ve always thought automakers should sell a minivan trim aimed at men. I have a buddy with an AWD Sienna minivan that he lifted 2 inches and fitted with AT tires. I scoffed when I heard about it but I have to admit it looks pretty badass.

I just detest the look of limited and I play in some deep mud puddles at times. That's all

So you spent more on the pro bro shocks to splash through puddles? Also looks like you made it look like you made it look worse than a Limited. :bananadead:

You said it bro! There are two types of men in this world: alphas and betas. And if a beta cuckhold wants to drive down the street in a Limited, while his testes shrivel and his wife plays patty cake with the driver of a TRD Pro - well that’s totally his choice - the sniveling pencil neck!

The preceding is satire and not to be taken seriously.

    My dream trim would be:
    • Limited interior
    • Limited full time 4WD
    • Non-Limited bodywork
    • Heritage grill
    • TRD Off-road wheels
    • KDSS
    • Roof rails
