Hi everyone. Im sure this subject has been flogged to death but here goes. I just bought an SR5 premium (40th anniversary in white). Looking to upgrade the suspension. Freeway miles and hammering down tracks that get me to good fishing spots in all weathers. I basically I want to float as if I'm on a cloud. I'm between King and Bilstein 8112 at the monent, with a 1.5 and 2.0 lift (nothing crazy).

Elka 2.5, Apache Offroad UCA, durobumps, RCI full skids, RSG sliders, 10 lb Powertank, Maxtrax, Hi lift jack, Westscott Designs modular roof rack and ladder, ARB rear diff breather relocate, ECGS bushing upgrade, c4 low profile bumper, Baja designs S8 lightbar, warn evo winch, factor 55 ultrahook, 80% off-road rear bumper, 4.56 regear
Consider Elka if your looking at the premium suspension options.

If you spending that kind of cash, dobinson mrr series struts/shocks. Then pair them with dobinson springs for the lift height and even added weight.

Floating on a cloud? I'm not sure if you'll find anything softer then oem. Most aftermarket shocks firm up the ride some.

While not an apples to apples comparison, check out the series that overland outfitters just did on their youtube channel. They blind test a handful of popular suspension setups on a tacoma, to include kings, icons, fox, elka, and bilstein 8112. Basically the kings and 8112's were the best. Personally, I am leaning 8112 if the time ever comes.

I have them and am happy with on road and off road ride. Improving the highway ride was one of my requirements. They are a premium setup. If better than kings, fox, the other premium setups who knows.

I have heard several well respected off road shops recommend Elka as the "best ride". But it comes down to your goals and use of rig.

I've yet to ride on any suspension softer than OEM. Many actually ditch the OEM stuff because it has such a floaty feeling.

The price vs return for 8112's for highway driving just isn't there, and you might actually end up with a stiffer ride for the few grand you spend.

Ride quality is definitely something we specialize in, and will custom tune the shocks before shipping out (free). Lots of options out there, and we have a lot of experience getting these 4Runners to ride really nice on and off-road. If your budget allows for is, some tuned Fox shocks would be a great choice.

Shoot us a PM if you have some specific questions about our kits, happy to help.

What I was told too, that ELKA 2.5DC have superior ride quality than King 2.5A & Fox 2.5DSC.

Are you planning on installing yourself or a shop? If using a shop best case is to find one specializing in Toyota and talking to them on recommendations.

Thanks for your thoughts. I would describe the OEM ride on the Tokios as choppy. Comfortable enough but over highway ridges and normal bumps it feels juddery and unsettled, it feels softer over light off road scenarios. Ive had trucks that float so I know the feel Im after but the OEM set up does not have it.

I would start researching finding the shop you have confidence in and starting a conversation with them on goals and their recommendations. Great to have an idea of products going into it.

Depending where you live might have a lot or few off road shops. Specializes in Toyotas is very important to me. Great parts is one part but the quality install and attention to detail is equally important.

You know I just realized my biases, as I have a ton of experience on the OEM Pro bilsteins but less than 1000 miles on the Tokios. I imagine there is a huge difference in the two. I assumed my stock, and your stock were similar which obviously that is very much not the case.
