I’d take it to the dealer and have them remove it so they can’t blame you later for screwing up the removal if you have electrical problems.

Also, make a big stink about them tracking their customers, how can you ever trust them again, your personal privacy, the disrespect etc etc lol. Maybe you can get a free extended warranty :D

just double check OBD port on my truck
dealer replaced the original OBD socket(white color) and fixed OBD socket(black color) of GPS tracker into frame
I just unplug socket from the little black box to make sure it will not drain my battery anymore
but still don't know how to remove the GPS tracker OBD socket and restore the original one back
    Any suggestion on it?
    Thanks

Second or third that, This is not OEM and should not be on there it you bought it outright, Seems kinda fishy the dealer would do this.

Is this a 2023 from a Toyota dealer?

So the OBD port is also no longer available for service diagnosis?

I'd be fucking pissed if my dealer installed a GPS tracker into my truck for any reason. And I'd go back and raise hell. Just just "feel bad" about it.

Actually I found it by tracing intermittent parasitic draw I captured 100~90ma then 60~70ma draw for 50min.
It will definitively shorten lifespan of my original battery eventually if I didn't find it.

Dealer should notify me about it after they withdrew money in full from my bank account one month ago

The dealer shouldn’t have had that in there to begin with. Even if you had a loan, does a bank come and put a tracker on your car? Even if they did, that’s the bank’s and your business, not the dealers. Tell them to take that shit off! And that you’ll settle for nothing less than a 5 year free mainatainance plan to stay quiet about their creepy ass spying.

Seem the dealership may have to either forgotten/too lazy to remove it.

This looks like lojack and is easy to uninstall. Bought a car outright and dealer forced me to pay for it and would not remove even after I paid for it. Took me 5 minutes to remove. press the tabs on both sides of the obd port and push it backward through the metal frame, cut any zipties holding the harness to the car, then just unplug the harness extension from the original OBD port and push the original OBD port back into the metal frame slot. You should end up removing a simple OBD extension cable with a couple wires connected to that unit.

That is amazing. What made you look? I saw another post where they said have the dealer do it and make a big stink about it. I am sure you probably signed something acknowledging it was there but still Id flip out at that dealership. Was it a dealership?

Does the OBD port still alive after the Ignition is turned off completely.
    Wouldn't think so.

I read recently that it is live but doesn’t consume any power unless something is plugged into it.

Why are they even doing this? What are the dealer’s interest in tracking a vehicle that’s already been sold? If they had legit reasons, why not ask Toyota’s data management entity to release the gps nav data already in most vehicles directly to them?

That article mentions helping recover a vehicle if it’s stolen. Why the hell does a dealer care if a car they sold gets stolen?

This doesn’t even make sense if you get a loan from a dealer, since the dealer isn’t actually taking the risk of loaning…the toyota financial entity would be. And if it’s toyota financial that’s demanding dealers to do this, it would be good to know so people can consider other options.

But if you’re buying cash or with an outside loan, gps trackers are a freakin messed up thing for dealers to do to a customer. Unbelivable

That is an odd thing for sure. Especially when gps is already in the shark fin, right?
    Third party data collection?
Has to be illegal, but could there have been legislation that passed recently?
My buddy said Apple hit him with a text because he turned off the tracking on his phone.
The gov and corps do not want anyone off the res any longer. SMDH.

    Just my opinion,
Sounds like an internal "add on" to pad the bottom line, shrouded under the umbrella of how much we value your safety and well being.
Did you notice if there was there any add ons to the monrnoney sticker on the window possibly attempting to disclose this?

Wanted to edit, Wonder if this could be wrapped into the "Doc" fees some how, Kinda turn your eye away from the charge.

I’m hoping that OP will take it to the dealer and approach them civilly (at least at first) in hopes of having a dialog that informs him of the who, when, where, and why - so we can all know.
