    Salutations fellow 4R enthusiasts.

    Rig: 2022 OR

Any tried n true suggestions on LED replacements for the halogen DRLs? Anything plug n play so that i don’t have mess around with the voltages.

    Much appreciated.

You’re getting 6V to each headlight. Most vehicle replacement lights can use down to 9V. Changing the headlights to 12V isn’t super difficult. Get a cheap 9005 extension and then cut and connect the ground to the positive and run a new ground on the passenger side

With the 2023 model, the DRL no longer shares the high beam bulb. I don't know if that was new for this year or post-2020. So, does anybody know if the DRL is still getting half voltage or is it now getting full voltage with a different lamp? Toyota hasn't updated some of their online documentation for the 2023 models yet, they are running slow.

For my 2020 Off-Road, I used the Fahren Krieges 2023 Newest 9005 bulb set. There was a mild flicker in DRL, but they are really super bright when in high beam mode.

The 2021 Limited (maybe Pro too?) and all 2022+ are wired in series making them each 6V and not shared with high beam. 2021 TRD and SR5 and all 2014-2020 used PWM to dim the high beam for use as a DRL

Yikes. One bulb out, lose both. That makes a relay necessary if I want to dink around with a 3rd party solution. Nobody will design a replacement because this generation is about over.

I guess the Fahren Krieges with a mild flicker will be acceptable if they'll fire up at all.

Read my first reply on this thread. Very easy to rewire into parallel without even touching the vehicle wiring

your typical 9005 LED at 12v is pretty buff for a drl. literally a high beam.

i vaguely remember a lower lumen 9005 LED that shines at a more typical drl level at 12v but i can’t remember who makes it. i also remember it being grossly expensive for a drl.

I understand, I just expect that the circuit is hamstrung. Dropping dual 12V loads at a shared 100W load might be a bit painful.

I do not mind a full power DRL. People's pupils are already getting inundated with light, so they're already shrunk down, plus I'll be more "seen." Hopefully, that will lead to less people cutting in front of me. :laser:

How did you get to 100W? Diode Dynamics lists their highest powered LED drop in as 20.2W per bulb. Morimoto lists theirs at 22W. Using the higher of the two still nets you 44W which is well under your 100W claim.

Edit: getting back to the original question. Morimoto actually lists theirs as going down to 6V and will operate at a lower intensity then. I have had nothing but issues whenever I have tried Morimoto products though. HID kit for a previous vehicle failed after a couple weeks. Wife has Morimoto XB headlights that are yellowing after a year. I ordered some Mod Pod minis for another project. One was DOA

I am talking generic Chinese Amazon-special 50 watt LED lights.

Yeah, some claim to go down to 30 Watts apiece while producing 20,000 lumens. Yada yada yada.

I installed these as DRL in 23 ORP. Bright white and work well

Are these any better than OEMs?
I don't love the DRLs on my 23, but most solutions seem to be to replace the housing which isn't what I want.
Is this just a different color, same lumen as OEM?

Sold out now. This is a classic example of Amazon specs... "Xenon white" followed by 2800-3300 Kelvin...

Was "sold out" earlier, now available.

I will try. If I can gain brightness, I'll go for it.

Fortunately, with the 4Runner, somebody can get DRL pictures at night.

My daughter's 2018 RAV4 wouldn't do it even after we shone a flashlight at the light sensor. :D:D:D:D:D

You only need the flip the Headlight Stalk to DRL when its dark.
Then take a picture with your phone :)

With the ancient 2013 technology on the 4Runner, NRLs (night time running lights) are possible!

I really wish they would have gone with auto headlights. Heck, I wish they did that German turn signal thing where it flashes three times too...

So even though the DRL circuit is only 6V these bulbs rated at 12 - 24 volts will still work? And I wonder if there is a brighter option that's just plug and play.

They did not work with my 23ORP. Changing it from series to parallel wiring might help it work, but, at least on mine, they wouldn't even power up. Of course, it is a Chinese Amazon product and the failure rates are rather high across the board...

Thanks for this. I'll probably just convert it to parallel then and take it from there. I'll figure something out. Thanks!

Please do not go full power DRLs. It will bother people on front of you even in full sun, particularly when stopped at stop lights or if they are in a car and lower to the ground. Been there done that and corrected it quickly. If someone I knew was in front of me they would let me know the lights were too bright. So I corrected it.

I have the amber ones in my 21 with DRL function only for the 9005 bulbs without issue. You probably know this, but just to mention it: both bulbs have to be installed before they will work, make sure DRLs are not switched to off with switch, and make sure parking brake is not on when in park when checking for function (I think).
