Taller tire and headlights

]I plan on getting a slightly (1 inch) taller tire in the next few weeks on my limited and I was wondering if that height differenrial has a noticeable (to the driver) impact on the light pattern. Will I be lighting up street signs? I can always take it to the dealer to re aim them but I’d rather save that $ for something else.

 

You should be fine since you are keeping the factory rake. 1" isn't going to be blinding anyone.

 

Added a 3in lift with bigger tires, and did not reaim headlights. Only time i did was replaceing them with brighter, but if you feel like you do need to reaim them you can do it yourself in a matter of 5 min.

 

Adding a taller tire will not affect your headlight beam pattern.

Take a look at these tire sizes-

265/70/17 (Stock)
265/75/17 (1" taller, 0" wider)
275/70/17 (0.6" taller, 0.4" wider)
285/70/17 (1.1" taller, 0.8" wider)
255/80/17 (1.5" taller, 0.4" narrower)

 

But doesn’t a taller tire basically net you a small lift all around.

So then your light pattern will sit higher and project further down the road, thus needing an adjustment. Right? I keep hearing conflicting reports.

 

No, I was replying to the post right above mine, in which you asked if a taller tire nets you a lift; the answer is yes, actually, that is the only way to "lift" a vehicle and gain ground clearance - running a taller tire.

The headlights won't change as long as the rake from back to front remains the same. If you lift / level only the front then the headlights will obviously point slightly "up" / further down the road. If you are not doing suspension work and only get bigger tires then the factory rake will be the same and the light pattern will be the same. It's geometry. Parallel lines and shit.
