As far as I can tell, the artifacts are probably the high beam/low beam gate that flips. It does create a very noticeable block of a darker lit area that is somewhat distracting. This is especially true at the 100 ft to 200 ft distances.

Still pretty disappointed that they didn't do an LED Halo or something with real common sense for the DRL.

I did some searches on the forum to see if it has been addressed with the simple term LED headlight, no luck, thus my post here.

My family's 2018 RAV4 and 2018 Prius both have this same gate system and neither of those have any artifact in the beam. My 2020, with LED replacement bulbs did a better job, I think, than these OEM ones.

My ‘23 TRD ORP looks identical to that. Bugs me. I’m very pleased with the light output on the 4Runner, but those
“blocks” look weird and bug me a little.

I should have mentioned that, I do think the lights are pretty bright. I pity the people coming up the hill while I'm going down it.

It’s not the shutter. It’s an additional little hook that Toyota added specifically for that artifact. It’s to reduce glare for oncoming drivers apparently

Edit: never mind. Just went out and looked at the projectors I have. It was a previous version of the Koito (Toyota light manufacturer) projector that had the tab as additional. The 4R version is attached to the shutter

    @Kezin, great info!

    Yet these engineers skip:
    • Automatic headlights
    • Multi-flash lane change signaling
    • LED DRLs
    • LED marker lights, turn signals and backup lights
    • A cargo area roof light
    • Trip distance since start (listing the time is OK but I use that function to see my fuel efficiency.

My dark spot isn't hitting my oncoming drivers in my neighborhood. Doh!

See my edit. Was thinking of some previous Toyota LEDs. I think they are off a Corolla? Anyway, I’m in the process of changing a few of those complaints with a spare set of OEM LEDs.

I already did a full LED conversion for the taillights. Got some Rigid pods for turn signals and just some LED replacements for reverse. Got a set of Diode Dynamics C1Rs for auxiliary reverse lights and rear fog lights whenever I get the chance to add them

Might as well put the dark spot on the shutter... When it's open, the oncoming driver will be blinded by the highs anyway.
