New to the forum, I own a 2018 Limited with 55,000 miles, all 4 shocks leak on my XREAS suspension, quote from local dealer is just south of $5000 to repair including alignment. Would like to delete this system and would like to hear from others on shocks and ride after delete. My driving is all on paved roads, only the very occasional dirt road travel. Thanks

That’s almost a crime for a need to totally replace the system at 55k

This winter I decided my 2014 Limited was overdue, max off road for me is a rough forest road and I was looking to stay cheap, no lift for now either, so I found a brand new ‘23 OEM takeoff set near me on Marketplace for $200 and with a buddies help moving slow & safe it only took about 8 hours including a long lunch break to delete the XREAS + install the new kit. I’m very low maintenance so the ride is fine for me being completely stock and feels better than my old dead XREAS for sure.

That’s actually the info I’m looking for, stock shocks and rides fine, dealers quote also included a delete XREAS quote of about $2000 to cap off lines and replace shocks with new. According to him/ them! I would not like the ride after the conversation. The XREAS lasting only 55,000 to me says it won’t last again. Whatever I decide dealer will not be doing the work. Thanks again

Yeah XREAS seems notorious for short lifespan. And again as per "rides fine" this is by far the newest nicest vehicle I've ever owned so my bar is pretty low. And about the work, I'm barely even a hobby mechanic and as I said the job was pretty easy. Using this video: (below), made it a cakewalk. Then between a few videos install was also made very easy (among many, two below). Update the thread here with whatever you decide to do!

Do you by chance have the Toyota extended warranty? If so it should pay for a new setup. Just had this done on my 2016 Limited and was covered with the Toyota Platinum extended factory warranty.

I did not have the Toyota Extended Warranty so my bad on that, I bought this vehicle in March of 18, brand new off the lot, kind of a techno midget so I’ll try later to post a few photos. I knew going in the XREAS was an expensive fix, but was thinking I’d get over 100k miles before I had to make this decision. Just trying to find out which shocks to put on vehicle and is the ride and handling significantly worse. I did go online and found XREAS shocks for the vehicle for $1000, but at this point I think I’ll go a different set of shocks and delete the system. Thanks again

You can’t get just the shocks I don’t think. You will need the accumulator and most likely the lines. On mine they swapped the whole system. They originally thought just the shocks but when they put in the warranty claim Toyota said per the engineers it all has to be replaced for it to be done correctly.

Good to know thanks, hence the $5000 quote from dealer, makes me even more certain I’m going to go a different direction

If this info helps the service advisor I worked with said they usually put on bilstein shocks if it’s out of warranty. I am not sure I would pay them 2000 to do it. Until I found out it was covered under warranty I was just going to go to an off road shop and have them put the bilsteins on for much less.

Thanks, that does help as Bilstein shocks are on the radar, dealer is not going to do the work however the service advisor stated most people that delete XREAS are not happy with the new ride. I’m not going to spend 5 large every 55,000 miles though. I like the vehicle and plan on keeping it for several more years

The ride will change for sure, it's tough to beat the XREAS IMO. Just to throw it out there, other than the leaks is there anything actually wrong with the XREAS? In terms of ride quality? Unsafe in any way? If not I'd be temped to let it ride. You may be surprised how many more miles you can get out of it and you can always put on some Bilsteins.

FWIW, when our XREAS bites the dust, I will most likely go Bilstein as well.

That’s actually very good food for thought, there is nothing wrong with the ride or handling at all and in fact just got back from a 1000 mile road trip to Colorado. Thanks for the input.

I regret throwing XREAS for no good reason. On the other forum seems like there are people who seem to have good miles. Here's first 2 for an example. Further down someone still running XREAS at 192K miles.
