It's been really difficult to find a set of the dark grey off road wheels but I've seen a few sets of powder coated ones, and you can buy a full set of the OR wheels for a few hundred dollars. It may be cost effective to buy a set and have them blasted and powder coated.

I have however heard that it may weaken the wheels. I know a lot of people do it from my days modifying cars but it's not something I'd want to risk a failure to with my family in the car in the middle of nowhere.

Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge on if it's something to be concerned about or not? I mean the last time I went into my Toyota dealer they had a set of OR wheels they had powder coated for sale on the floor. I'd assume they wouldn't do that if it wasn't safe because of liability.

    Thanks in advance!

Powder coating will not affect the structural integrity of the wheel. I would see if you can find a set of the trail special edition dark grey wheels first.

What steel said, but also keep in mind there’s a science to powder coating wheels versus other metal objects, so make sure you find the right people to do it.

Thats exactly why I'd rather find a set of oem dark grey rims. I'd rather not have any concern about them. Especially if I'm out in the desert

Definitely find a good place to do the powder coating right. My neighbor chose a cheaper powder coating service for his Ranger and the color was uneven for two wheels. The shop corrected them but the quality is poor. He end up getting a new set of xd wheels and brake pads.

I had my ADR Kasai wheels powder coated in august of 2018. I have run them on my daily driver IS300 since with no concerns.

Not firsthand knowledge, knowledge none the less. Aluminum wheels are annealed at temps between 650-800F. The powdercoater would have to bake your wheels at a minimum of 650F to undo the annealing process. Most places use low temp powder at around 395F. So logic dictates powdercoating this way is completely safe for wheels. Especially since you'd be using OEM wheels for this. Go for it and get the exact color you want on a wheel.

Thank you all for the feedback. I have found a set of the oem's I want in NM but that is an 8hr drive or a set local that has already been powdercoated an amazing bronze... decisions decisions
