Looks like a hood switch for an aftermarket alarm.

Ok well that doesn’t explain why I had to jump start it from the starter relay and then would run really hot all a sudden so the cluster said

This photo has several concerning things. What the hell did they remove from the fire wall and why? Poor workmanship and bodge jobs like that are always a red flag, it says that whoever owned it was the "good enough" attitude rather than the do it right.

It looks like a switch, if there is any aftermarket alarm system- remove it. They always cause problems, especially battery draining.

What you do for the overheating depends on the records. Has the water pump been done, is the thermostat original, and how does the coolant look?

The fact that they left a hole in your fire wall. There should be a rubber boot where that hole is in your fire wall is (near the wiper motor)

Ignore the basket and the motor, the rubber boot that should be present on yours is visible here

Ok. Also check that your fan and fan clutch is working, that will be the easiest thing to check

Looks like the engine to body ground strap is corroded in two, you need to repair that, it can cause all kinds of electrical issues, trust me on that, as a retired auto tech I spent a day and a half chasing problems all because of a ground strap that had been cut in two

    Believe this,

Also a retired tech here and it is amazing what ground issues can cause.
