Hello all, finally got my (new to me) 01 4Runner on the road, brought it in for an inspection and got some depressing news. It seems my VC gaskets are leaking even though they were replaced by Toyota 1 year and 1 month ago. Toyota won't honor the work because it was over a year ago ($500). My master cylinder is leaking ($3700) and some misc items like fan belts and coolant need to be changed. The killer is the master cylinder as I can see fluid come out of the front plug when I press the brake pedal. Anyone else have to replace that part? Is that a reasonable price? By the time I get it fixed it will cost me almost as much as I paid for it.:sadviolin:Thanks for letting me rant

Check out www.rockauto.com for parts. Everything thing you said that needs to be done is simple work for a competent person.

Also check into any other place than a dealership. Will probably cut your costs in half for parts and labor if unable to do the work yourself.

$3700 for a master cylinder??? That is way too much. I would look into other places for sure. Master cylinders are super easy to replace. I just did the ENTIRE brake system on my buddies truck and he'll be owing me less than $2000 even with cost of parts. There will definitely be cheaper avenues

Got a picture of where it's leaking from? It could be coming out of the master cylinder or the booster, which you can get separately. When sold together, they're over $3k retail.

That's a little tough to make out, but maybe this will help. Here's a diagram of everything:

Is it in the 47201 box or the 47070B box? :D
