I have Falken wild peak at3 on my 4runner that is worn out now. Bought a new home and the garage is much lower. I have less than 4 inches of clearance to my garage doors. Replacing my 4runner with the same tires will make the height go up. Will the replacement make my vehicle not fit into the garage? Should I be looking at a smaller tire if so any suggestions?

Not to be too much of a dick. We can't mind read what height you are at or what your garage is at.

But how much room do you have now? 4" is a big difference in height.

Unless somehow new tires of the same size and model are 4" bigger than the worn out tires, I think you're going to be okay here...

I'm going to have to measure it again to get the exact height. Basically, my question is how much more height will I get from replacing old at3 tires?

Thanks, I wasn't sure how much you get back from the deep threads. Never had this problem before.

You don't say what size tire you have on there now. Thread depth of a brand new 265/70/17 is 17/32" and for a 285/70/17 it's 18/32" so at the most (assuming that the other tire was bald and had no tread left) you would be raising the overall vehicle height just a little over 1/2". Based on that you still would have 3 1/2" of clearance left.

However you remeasure, don't stand on the rear of truck while measuring.

@AnchorCop lets see if I have this straight. With a worn set of tires you can fit into your garage with 4 inches of room to spare, and you wonder if you put the same make, model, and size of tire on your truck whether the new tires will make your 4Runner 4 inches taller? Am I reading you right?

4 inches of clearance would take more than 4 inches of tread (since rubber compresses), and 8 inches in diameter to offset. I am not aware of any main stream tires available for the 4runner that has that kind of difference between new and worn.

    1. What size tires do you currently have?
    2. Does your 4R fit into the new garage with the current worn out tires, and if so,
    3. How much room do you have from the top of the roof rack to the edge of the garage door currently with the worn out tires?

All needed to answer your question.

Another idea, get a lower roof rack.

So confused. I can't tell if the less than 4" clearance is his old house but now he got a house with a lower garage but doesn't know the measurement and wants us to guess if he has enough room.

    I could be completely wrong.

Thanks, for all the replies. As long as the new tires doesn't raise more than an inch of clearance then I should be good. It's probably 2-4" currently to clear into the new house. 285 70 17 Falken At3 about 40-45k miles so I might have another 5k left.

I am thinking new set of tires would raise about 14-16/32" so you should be clear of your 4" guidelines as a quick response.

You need a hi-lift jack under the corner of the garage. Just jack up the house when you want to move the truck in or out...
