Just added FN countersteer and BFG Ko3

 

Damn, those look really good. Are they OEM take-offs or did you purchase them from a dealer?

Please report back after some miles on those as I know there are quite a few people who are eager to hear about their performance.

Personally, I am very interested in knowing how they perform in wet weather conditions.

 

Let us know what you think when you test them. Looks like they are pretty heavy compared to KO2 based on tire rack. Too bad BFG site only got KO2 specs. Not sure if Tire rack specs are correct or not.

What's the big change drom KO2s? Or is it more of an evolution?

Yes please! What’s the tire size and load rating? How wide are your wheels? The sidewalls look rounder than the K02s which is nice.

I’m going to get a set of tire in 285/70 in the near future, and my shop has KO3s available already…but the weight is scaring me off a little. Still undecided about 02 or 03, but these look great!

Those look great. I've said it in other threads, but I'm running KO2's on my Land Cruiser and couldn't be happier. Was planning to replace the OEM Bridgestones Dueler H/T's on my 21 Venture with KO2's, but the Duelers refuse to wear out...

So, is the KO3 a replacement for the KO2, or in addition to?

 

Wheel is 8" wide. The tires were purchased from TireRack.com. They randomly popped up when I was searching for Ko2s. Everyone I've spoken to are baffled because they are supposedly an "unreleased tire". All the techs at discount tire (where they were mounted) were asking how I got them.

 

Trying to see the difference, got my second set of KO2s mounted on the first of July. Paid $280/tire for these C rated 285s 116/113S.

 

Replacement. K02s are discontinued but still available…hence my indecision.

Are the KO3 replacing all KO2 sizes? My understanding was the KO3 was available in limited sizes.

 

That’s my understanding too, only limited sizes are currently available.

 

KO2's have been the same for over a decade now with proven reliability.

Best to wait a few years on the KO3's so they can work out the first year bugs.

 

The only complaint I have with KO2 is wet traction not that great once they start wearing down. Will take awhile for feedback on KO3 with many miles on them.

C load
The shipping receipt said 56lbs. So I'm guessing they are about 5lbs heavier than the previous gen. Side walls seem almost identical, tread is definitely tighter. Compared to a friend's 5th gen with ko2s, these seem quieter. But we will see with age.

 

I'm on my third set overall, with two trucks, totaling 125K miles and haven't had any hydroplaning or traction issues. I didn't have running boards on the FJ and also don't have any on my current 5th gen. However, I did have running boards on my 4th gen, which it had Bridgestone revo 3's, and I hydroplaned all the time.

 

So far, I noticed there aren't any Snow Peak triangles between the lugs on the KO3s, are they still rated?

 

Curious if these still run "small" in comparison to other manufacturer 285/70's... The internet consensus is that the KO2's ran slightly smaller compared to a Falken or Nitto tire.

 

It's such a small difference between them:

KO2 - 32.7
Nitto - 32.76
Falken - 32.8

No idea what the KO3 is but i'm betting it's the same as the KO2.

BTW, are those 3 peak mountain symbol? Just checked a pic of my tire and they look like just triangles.

Nice looking tire. I may hold off and get the KO3's. My KO2's have 56K on them.

 

The KO2's increased performance over its predecessor, in mud and snow traction, is made possible from the "COREGARD technology that incudes mud-phobic bars and the triangles that help add a tougher wall with better grip. Hence, why I've always associated the triangles in the design as an "innuendo" to highlight their new three-peak performance over the KO and other competitor tires at the time. Sort of a function with a design, and the T/A (Traction/Advantage) was probably added on top of the triangles as icing on the cake.
