    Hello!
we've been a 4Runner family since the late 80s, but I'll be buying my first one next week. I have a choice of a TRD Pro or an Off Road Premium. Any thoughts? I'll mostly be running it in the city and up to the cabin, with short jaunts off road near the Canadian border for camping. I won't be hauling young kids (they're all grown now) so this time this hooptie is just for me! Honestly, I'm not going to be a hard core off-roader, but I love the comfort and reliability after having a European sedan for the past decade that was great on the eyes and miserable on my wallet.
MSRP of the TRD Pro is between 5-6K more than the Off Road Premium. With the mods I plan on doing right away (alloy black rims, black out everywhere and enhanced front grill and better fog lights) I can do this all cheaper than the base cost of the Pro that's in inventory. Is there something I'm missing that would make you think I should consider the Pro over the Off Road Premium? I'd like feedback.

I couldn't find anything about the Pro that made it more attractive to me than the ORP.

To me, the only thing that would make me want the Pro is the exclusive color. If the Pro you're looking at is black or one of the regularly available colors, I wouldn't spend the money.

My wife and I both have 2023 TRD ORP's.....Nuff Said!!!:tumbleweed: Her's Ice Cap mine Classic Silver Metallic. IMHO, my thought was why spend all that extra cash when the ORP's is more that enough (for her and I). Good luck in your difficult decision.

I guess the decision isn't hard after all! I think you sealed my decision (and yes, the ORP is the color I wanted - black!)

Hard pass on the pro, at least not with the way there always seems to be a 5-15k markup on the MSRP that already has increased quite a bit lately.

Welcome from Wisconsin! Go with the ORP. Mechanically the same as a Pro, for alot less money. Take the money you save and put it towards the mods you want.

Welcome. If you're planning to mod anything, why pay more just to remove something? ORP will get you pro features without certain cosmetics.

I own a Pro specifically for the color. I also don’t plan on modifying the suspension or anything else that came with the truck. There a few other features that only the Pro and Limited have; JBL system, remote start, dual climate control.
Go for the off-road premium, if it’s just one of the normal colors.

If you have no plans on modding the suspension, I may consider the Pro as the suspension is one of the areas that is an upgrade over the other models. I planned on modding suspension so the Pro didn't make as much sense (unless you wanted one of the limited colors)

My comments are purely for my taste and have no intention to say anything bad about other people's love.

    Things I like -
JBL sound - I absolutely love this as a music lover compared to regular sound system. But I agree not good as factory system like Mark Levinson on Lexus. I bet it could cost a pretty penny for a plug and play system like OEM Audio+ or Taco Tunes that fit directly. Or else mix and match by a sound professional.

Remote start - I like the ability to remote start from the app so I can keep the car warm when I go to doctor office or similar with my new born. Sadly I have to pay $80 just for that.

Looks - I like the factory look with the TRD Skid and grill. That grill allow me to have extra light bars on upper grill.

Things I less like on TRD Pro -
Suspension - To me TRD Pro Fox suspension are good for a factory / entry level like suspension. True that in rough terrain they not that good as mid level Ironman FCP suspension and no where near good as high end ELKA 2.5DC suspension. I also don't like the fact to pay extra for suspension that doesn't give a nice lift increasing running ground clearance.

Tires - It is pathetic that spare tire does not have a matching tire as running tires where owners have to spend again to buy a matching tire. Also here in CO since stock tires does not carry 3 peak mountain snow flake rating I anyway had to buy 5 new tires for my & family safety in winter

Wheels - Since my preferred tire size is 285/70R17 TRD Pro wheels does not meet minimum width per tire manufacturers to run that size like TRD Offroad wheel does. Also since TRD Pro wheels have more offset it would cause more rubbing on bigger tires.

Exhaust - I love the sound at start in garage or parking lot. But don't like continuously listening to it. Especially on trips.

Roof rack - I don't see much of a use of it as it has same load rating as stock roof rails. It does create lot of wind noise even after I moved the top crossbars to bottom row. If I lift mine this would be a problem as it will not clear my garage door. TRD Offroad roof rails clears my door with 3in lift.

Dual zone climate control - I use them as manual controls on TRD offroad as I often change temperatures and A/C on off position. I often turn off A/C when my preferred temp reach and also to reduce condensation when I'm closer to my house. Fan speed is almost all the time manually changed. So mine is more likely manually controlled system.

Colors - I picked Magnetic gray as I prefer more manly / guys colors like grey / black / red or even classic colors like silver. I don't think bright colors suite my self / taste. I do like Army green too.

Build quality - As far as I see on USA port pics TRD Pro stuff are fixed locally and may not be in best quality like TRD Offroad built in Japan. I had alignment issues and wheel balance issues. I paid my own money to fix them because I think if Toyota cannot fix it at the first time when they install suspension, wheels and tires how would they fix again. After a trusted shop did alignment and road force wheel balance my TRD Pro drives good.

Turn indicators on mirror - My 2021 TRD Pro does not have turn indicators on mirror. I wish they have to give more visual warning to others when I'm turning.

Things I less like on TRD Pro and TRD Offroad -

4WD selector - My wife find it difficult to use it. I change it as needed from passenger seat.

4WD system in winter - Compared to my Limited with center diff I absolutely love to winter drive my Limited on pavement. So much easy to drive on turning to roads. My kiddos school needs a U turn and if I don't drive the Limited I'm going over the curb since TRD models cannot turn tight in 4H.

3rd row availability - I'm a big fan of 3rd row and why my Limited and SR5 got 3rd row. I understand you don't need it.

Things I less like on TRD Offroad -

Optional KDSS on TRD Offroad - I don't like the ride quality on rough roads. And few other things about it, but don't want to talk too much about it since many would get offended.

I did a ton of research before I made a similar decision earlier this year. I ultimately ordered the ORP, spec’ed and built how I wanted it because: 1) it provided a great platform to mod from 2) it didn't break the bank and 3) it meets all our needs - off roading, family road trips, hauling yaks, camping, and hauling stuff (small camper, trailer, etc). We LOVE our ORP!
