Hi there, still learning the ins and outs of my first 4runner (2023 sr5). Currently, everything is stock and first thing I want to do is change out tires and rims. I'm talking to someone who's selling 17" tacoma TRD wheels with either KO2s with a C rating or wildpeaks with a E rating. Both tire options come in a 265/70R17. Now from what little I know, wouldn't an E rating be better in terms of durability? And if I went with the Tacoma TRD wheels, would I need to do any modifications? I'm assuming regardless of tire I would need to do a lift since these are thicker tires. Thank you in advance.

Welcome, I'm not sure which tacoma trd wheels your talking about. But tacoma wheels have more offset then 4runner wheels. So I'd ask the seller of the wheels what the offset or backspacing the wheels have first. Yes e rated tires are much more durable, but do you need them to be?

KO2s are garbage tires, don't ever spend money on them.

Between BFG KO2 Load E vs Load C I say no to Load E. It was a noticeable difference between 265/70R17 BFG KO2 Load C vs 275/70R17 BFG KO2 Load E in terms of comfort. Probably due to 3 ply sidewall in BFG KO2.

Between BFG KO2 LT285/70R17 Load C vs Falken Wildpeak AT3W P285/70R17 SL I love BFG KO2. From on road trips to winter wheeling BFG KO2 was my fav. Love the traction on deep snow, rocks, gravel and sandy trail roads (but haven't tried on deep soft sand).

Recently I saw a post about BFG KO3. Might want to check on that.

But if you have a tighter budget and looking for low cost tires Falken Wildpeak AT3W are a great tire for the money. I don't know if you can find made in USA Falkens but both my sets were made in Thailand.
Will made in USA Falkens would be better than made in China/ Thailand would be better? No idea.

I'm on my second set of garbage tires. First set was at almost 60K when I switched them out. Balanced perfectly with zero issues. Only changed them out because they started to get a little noisy.
On my second set of garbage tires. At 42K currently with around 9-10 32nds left. Once again having zero issues.

I have had great experience with KO2's Ive had 4-5 sets over the years and they have performed very well and lasted a long time.
I ran load E on a gen 2 Taco and I now run load C on my gen 5 4runner.
The E are heavy duty but don't ride as nice in my experience, I'm VERY happy with my current tires [they are at 50,000 miles now and will easily last until winter.
    I'm in Mn for reference

Vehicle manufactures use "garbage tires" on their top of the line too :p:p

I’m looking forward to my next set of garbage as well. 65,000 quality miles, Load C.

LOL on KO2’s being garbage. I’ve had a bunch over the years and they are perfect for So Cal and Baja. I run 275 E and have been super happy with them on my 4Runner. 22k miles so far. Rotate every 5k. They are thick and stiff but I’m not expecting a car type ride on them. I’ve got other vehicles if I want that.

same. KO2s look so much better. I was Ok to accept a little less rain and snow performance compared to wildpeaks. So far happy with it.

My buddy grew up in an area where there's trails everywhere so always did a lot of off roading. He loves ko2's. He's never had E's.

He gets snow every year and got a shit ton this past year. His ko2's do fine in the snow.

I've done some snowy trails. No issues. Was a lot of fun. On 285 70 17 ko2s

I went with E rated for extra protection. You can really tell they are more beefy so you will probably get worse mpg and be a little slower. I'll be getting C rated next time.
