I just recently bought a 2023 TRD Premium. Updated my phone, loaded the Toyota app. It does not show the "start" button. If I hold the app button for a brief second, I do get the options to start, lock, unlock. However they do not function. Any thoughts, or suggestions? I feel like I'm missing something. Currently waiting for the dealership to call me back. Until then I thought I'd reach out here as well.

    Thank you..

I've heard it can take a little while to sync up.

I thought the remote start function was only available on the Pro and Limited trims.

It's connected to the JBL sound system which I think is only available in Pro and Limited trims.

So does that mean you can transplant a newer JBL system onto an older JBL 4R and get Toyota remote start?

Possible, but much cheaper to add aftermarket remote start.

Agreed. My wife has a 2017 Limited with N2 remote start and I have a 2021 with Toyota remote start. For simplicity and OEM-ness it would be nice to have a new Toyota headunit and amp. Not willing to do the T10/other Chinese offerings and neither of us really want a floating tablet headunit. If the OEM one is all that’s needed to get the official remote start too then that would be a plus - having one app for both vehicles vs one for each

I was disappointed to find this after the fact too. There's very little info on Toyotas site, and I assumed Premium meant Premium connectivity Features. LOL

I wouldn't be too disappointed. The APP is free for a year and then about 10 a month.

$10/month to use my phone to start my truck? No thanks. I’ll use the fob.

Not liking Toyotas pay for basic services model. Once stuff expires after I get my truck, I won't be renewing on anything.

Sales rep told me the fob just opened the doors. He checked with another staff who demonstrated the FOB starting the truck and told me to use the APP free for a year....I get reminder texts to check my back seat....

I’m just appalled at the fact that Toyota thinks that smartphone feature is worth $10/month (after the free trial period). The majority of people likely live in climates where a remote starter is useful a few months during extreme heat and extreme cold. I’ll gladly use my fob. I’ll keep the $10/month to put towards my budget for midget prostitutes with hair lips.

If you're in range, this might work - To remote start your vehicle using your fob, press the Lock button twice within one second. Then, press the Lock button a third time and hold it for three seconds. Otherwise you need the app. When I was working from the office full time, I paid the 10 bucks during the summer to remote start from my office. That black interior makes the vehicle 1,000 degrees in the FL sun. Cooling it down at the end of the day makes life much easier.

I have it on my Pro, but it made me enable notifications in order for remote stuff to work. Could be the same, or you dont have it. I thought the dealer had some part in activating it too. I'd call them about it. My Camry has basic entune and the app features work fine. Cant see why the 4runner would be any different.

He did mention some people only use it during the winter and then cancel.

Where do you live? Remote start is included on Canadian TRD Sport and Off Road's.

Some say the range on the factory embedded one is limited to 20-30 feet. I haven't had any issues with starting it. From at least 50 feet in an elevated building.

Yeah, factory is usually within sight. But having 3mi range and the ability to start with confirmation inside any building is nice and worth the upgrade IMO.
