New brake pads came with metal plate on back albeit a bit smaller than the larger metal plate that was already on old brakes. My question is, should I have transferred that metal plate to the new pads? I couldn’t get the brakes to slide in with it and figured they’d be fine with the metal backing of new pads. Thanks!

You can just use the plate that it came with. If they squeak you can get disk brake quieter and apply that on those plates where the piston touches them.

Thank you! I wish I could say it’s my 4Runner but I was doing a brake job for the mother in law and just wanted to make sure I did it 100%. Much appreciated!
