7 years and 150k and still on original battery …

….Anyone else make it this long? It finally needs to be replaced and I’m looking at an optima, but I got to thinking that if the factory batteries last this long, maybe they’re worth the money. Thoughts?

 

They WERE made better. Todays factory battery is not what it was 7 years ago.

 

Mine also lasted 6/7yrs. Didn't need to change it because it wasn't giving me issues but changed to a newer factory battery. Hopefully it lasts as long.

 

Battery on my 2019 Dodge Challenger lasted a whole 1.5 years before it crapped out. It showed no signs of failing. It just up and died one day.

Battery in my 2021 KIA has been going for over 2 years, with no issues.

 

Mine says Panasonic. And come to think of it, my Tacoma I traded in for the 4Runner was 7 years old and on the same battery. That was an 08.

I typically have them die at 3.5 years. Your experience is amazing!

 

The battery installed at the factory in my F150 was 8 years old (and 160k miles) when I traded it....

 

I’m going on 5 years with the original Panasonic battery. Too bad they’re not available in the U.S.

 

The Panasonic in my 2018 went out a year ago.

 

I don’t drive much. Just turned over 35k miles. Usage is probably a contributing factor too.

 

I'm very happy that my original battery on my 2019 still works with very short trips.

 

On my previous 2010 SR5 I had original battery for 7 years, it didn't show any issues but finally failed to start truck when I was going to work in the morning. I used booster to start the truck and drive to work, but after work it started just fine. I didn't wanted to take chances and I went directly to mechanic to replace it : )

My Panasonic lasted forever.

don’t get an Optima, they took their good reputation and moved production to Mexico and quality took a huge hit. They aren’t what they used to be. If your set an AGM you need to do a diode mod to up the alternator voltage. All things considered if it’s worked out for you this well this long, just get whatever the parts store best quality lead acid battery with the longest warranty is.

 

Still have the original battery in my wife's 2015 Durango with 147K on it. I really think the main contributing factor to it's longevity is because the battery is located underneath the passenger front seat keeping it out of the elements.

Debatable. The 1.5 year battery in my challenger was in the trunk. It was away from any element

 

Huh, I dunno. Purely a guess as it is the first vehicle we have ever owned that did not have the batt in the engine compartment lol.

 

Really, no clue. I just chalk it up to a poorly manufactured battery. Others chalk it up to the Florida heat, but my KIA's battery has lasted longer in the same climate, and is under the hood.

 

I'm old. And have multiple vehicles. And all the batteries in my vehicles have lasted for years. Battery in my 2016 F150 that I bought new is original. Batteries in my Dodge/Cummins dually are 9 years old. Bought my used 2006 Jeep Wrangler in 2011 - it is still on the battery that was in it when I bought it (but it is an Optima Red Top). And the Walmart battery I changed out in my old John Deere diesel was just over 13 years old. So I don't understand why you folks are having batteries fail so early.

 

I replaced my original 2013 battery this past November of 22.

I know some guys say its good for 5+ years but I for one don't want to be stranded.

I'll change mine every 3 - 4 years.

 

The original battery in my 2011 Tacoma lasted for about 6 years before the TX heat killed it. Replaced it with a Duralast Gold form Autozone (Made by Johnson Controls at that time) and it lasted until I t-boned a drunk driver who ran a stop sign about 2 months ago. Not sure how good they are now since being sold in 2019 and renamed.

 

I bought a new Kubota tractor around 2007. I replaced the battery with a new one around 2020. I put the old battery in a car I was selling and it still cranked that 460 Ford engine just fine. Easily 13 years old.
The best one prior was an 8 year old Diehard I ruined leaving a done light on.

 

Who makes the OEM replacement that the Toyota sells?

 

Agreed - for something so important that isn't very expensive to replace, I like to be proactive when it comes to batteries

 

My 17 yr old Tacoma (2006 model year) is on its second battery at 181k miles. OEM lasted from ‘06-‘14, and I have no idea what brand the current one is but it’s the cheapest one I could get from Advance Auto back in 2014.

All of my vehicle’s batteries last an abnormally long time, which is probably attributed to the very mild VA climate, and the fact that we live pretty rurally and don’t make any short trips.

 

My original diesel/Mopar batteries in my 04 Dodge went 10 years (died during a cold snowstorm)and I replaced them with Interstates. Last month I did a preemptive replacement of the Costco Interstate batteries after 9 years, they weren’t dead yet but I did not want any issues towing/camping this summer.

FYI….Johnson Controls manufacturers nearly all the Lead Acid batteries under different names.
