I had looked at dash mounts a while back. Between this one, ICS, and Victory, I was leaning towards ICS but ultimately decided I didn't really need a dash mount considering the price. But, like so many of my other mods I don't really need, when I saw another forum member selling it for a heavy discount I just couldn't help myself. Thanks again @dgrenier15!

Today I used rattle can bedliner to repaint the front bumper. I bought it with PC from Victory 4x4 but powder doesn't stick well to aluminum and it began chipping quite badly within a month. Luckily Victory was nice and refunded the PC charge. It's been on for a couple of years and was looking quite shiny in a lot of spots.

I'm happy with how it turned out. I forgot to tape off the inside edges of the fairlead (i painted it too because it was a silvery color and I had just left it like that until now) and when I felt the texture of the paint I was afraid it would damage my synthetic cable. Luckily I had some 220 grit and I sanded the paint off before it hardened too much so it's smooth again.

IMG_2848.jpg Had new Michelin Defender LTX M/S stock size installed. I originally ordered 255 75 17 Firestone Destination AT2 and there was an oops at the tire shop and they had the Michelins in stock so thats what she's wearing now.

I have heard this said several times here on the forum, but I don't know where the information comes from. Can you tell me where you learned this?

I taught fleet drivers for years to fill at a quarter tank so as not to burn out the fuel pump. I became curious after your post, so I went and looked up the parts diagram for the fuel pump in the 4runner.Screenshot_20230628-231855.png

As you can see here, the pump (23221) is mounted upright, and though the scale is hard to make out from the technical drawing, Amazon gives us this measurement
    317i-3dTkML._AC_UF894,1000_QL80_FMwebp_.jpg

I also see that this specific part lists as applicable all the way back to 2003, and the part which preceded it (also 22321-46010) is almost identical, and oriented the same way in the drawings. It fit 4runners from 1991-2002.

So I for one am comfortable putting this one to rest once and for all - the fuel pump does in fact rely on gasoline to cool it, and it does need to be submerged in at least 4.6 inches (about a quarter of a tank?) of gasoline to do that.

Finally got around to replacing the rear valance. Was only because my buddy accidently lightly rear ended me with his jeep when he got out if his car while failing to put it in park.

I tweaked my garage door to open 4" wider, in a possibly futile effort to fit the 4R with a basket on. I won't know for sure until the mounting HW gets here so I can measure as assembled, but I'm likely to miss by 3/8". I'll only get that much more by shaving down the trim. The danger is that the trim covers whatever is out of square between the door and the frame, so I need to measure carefully to avoid creating a thin triangular gap along the top.

There’s a mechanic on the other forum who works on Toyotas and he describes how the fuel pump sits in a housing (perhaps that 77131C in your posted diagram) that keeps the pump submerged even if the tank is quite empty. So not to worry about the pump.

“Speaking in very general terms, when the pump is no longer effectively able to suck fuel from the tank, you have about 1/2" to maybe an inch of fuel left in the fuel tank on a level surface. The fuel pump housing (the big plastic bucket that everything sits in) itself will be filled with fuel as that's what it uses as a reservoir to keep the pump cool and it doesn't really drain out fully even when the tank is basically empty.” Lots of discussion over there on this issue.

all around or just the front?
I got mine done last month -- hood, lights, door handles, front bumper. I honestly think this is better than having ceramic coating.

Ok, I can see the "bucket", in the illustration. My very first thought is that this would hold such a small volume of fuel, that the heat exchange with the pump would neutralize it's cooling capability fairly quickly. BUT this is "what did you do to your 5th gen today...", not "how much gas do you need in the tank...", So I won't push the question further here. I'll go check out that other forum you linked over to and see if I can be swayed. Thanks

Just the front. Most places call it the "Full Front". I've done it on two other vehicles and have been pleased. Our Crosstrek has a couple fairly big chunks/ chips in the PPF on the bumper. Saved the paint for sure.

I've had ceramic coating on one and was also pleased, but ceramic coating won't stop rock chips like PPF will. It's $$ but I feel it's worth it. If I had the money, I'd do the whole thing.

Hadn't heard that in a minute.

    OAN:

Picked up one of these off FB market. Brand new in box. Paid $90 for. Cartrimehome and few other sights sell these for well over $100. Pulling off the tailgate garnish isn't what scares me. Making sure everything goes back in place like it's supposed to is what scare me lol.

Project for next week on my short work week.

Went to Westcott Designs today and had them lift my 4Runner using Bilstein 6112 in the front and 5160 in the rear.

went up 2.3 inches in the front and 1 inch in the rear.

Possibly dumb question but could you just pull the headrest and remove the entire assembly?

I was thinking the same thing, but it looks like its clamped to the head rest posts and I'm sure(at least hope) it's bolted down below the seat.

I will say, I give you props for carrying a pistol braced firearm in today's climate

That looks nice! Any chance you can give measurements from bottom of fender to middle of hub? I'm on the fence about going to 285's. Thx!

Not sure what the measurements are but what I can tell you is I was getting 19-20 MPG going 65-70 go to and from Westcott. (4hour drive). No trimming no issue with 275. . If I remember to, I’ll take measurements later

    three things..
    1. The weapon is only in there when I am traveling to range or maybe on a road trip.. I would never leave it over night.
    2. there is a cover you can put over it and cover it up with if you were to go into a restaurant or something like that.
    3. and to answer your main question..They also send you a Thick cable lock that you put at the bottom and attach to under the seat.

Its just enough to detour smash and grabs But if someone had A LOT of time and the right tools they could work hard at getting it.
There are several YOUTUBE videos on this product. Like anything its not for everyone.. some like it and some don't..

Wish I lived close enough to swing in and look at their stuff.. I did call them the other day and they said almost everything is like a 6-8 week wait... I like their roof racks but I also want the external Molle rear side window covers! They don't offer that yet and I am not sure if the other companies will work with their roof rack???

I've got a couple thoughts/concerns on that as well as the planned RTT will take up pretty much the whole upper of the rack. I do believe some other companies add-on's work but may need to custom make some things. The other thing I will end up doing I think is buying the mounts from Sherpa to use so I don't have to use sealant. I wish all companies would create water tight mounts. I'll probably use the tape around the bolts too. Even though we don't get much rain here, I'd rather be safe than have to deal with water damage. Although I haven't actually seen too many people say it's happened

YES I agree.. isn't it Sherpa also that doesn't make you CUT the front part of the trim? I like that.. I have mixed feeling with the others where you have to cut a notch out..
