I get that every company has mistakes. However, I saw a CBI bumper that was rusting quite bad and if the guy was truthful, it was put on the vehicle about six months ago.

Long story short, I haven't installed it yet and if their powdercoating is a common complaint, I'd rather have it redone before mounting. Thanks.

Any type of coating is compromised by poor preparation. Don’t think of it as bad powder coating but bad metal prep before coating.

Okay, so what is CBI's reputation on powder coating preparation?

So I have a full set of CBI skids on ours. They have been on for about a year. We don't have major rust issues in FL, but they still look good and no rust that I have seen.

From seeing different steel-work products on my friends and my truck, I think you’ll find that they all suck if they are exposed to salt-belt condition. Once a piece of gravel chips the coating, water gets in and starts to rust behind the powder coat. Some might do better because they were better prepped before powder coating, but mild steel can’t be compared to the galvanized steel bodywork of modern cars. A few years before repaint is all you should expect. Painting it yourself is an option, but again, a lot of work needs to go into prep before painting.

If you are looking for low-maintainance, skids, sliders and bumpers are not that. Aluminum might be a bit better, but aluminum will still corrode after a while.

I appreciate the responses, but I'm not in the rust belt and I pressure wash it when I come back from the beach. Real familiar with rust, just was asking if CBI does quality powder coating. My RSG skid has a great coat on it and it fights my wire brush as I'm removing rust in gouges. Hopefully it'll be on par with that.
