I'm curious, are foreign dealers allowed to mark up their stock? And include all sorts of useless DAOs? That's exactly what is going to happen with the U.S. market Prado. The 4Runner in any build I would buy is MSRP in the mid $50s. Add the DAOs and markup and you're over $60. It doesn't take much imagination to see the Prado in the $70s right out of the gate. And that's a big nope for me.

    It won't be that high.

4Runner will be in the 40's.
GX will be in the 60's.
I don't see the new LC being more expensive than the GX.

I don’t keep up much with it but I’m leaning towards Toyota having a LC-Prado and ditching the 4Runner. T4R and LC are both very off-road capable and from what I hear the LC is a little roomier and maybe slightly nicer inside. If I were Toyota I’d worry if I was trying to sell these two as they would be fairly similar

I sure hope not. I hope they'd stick with a name that's been around for 40 years rather than doing some corny shit like that. That sounds like something Chevy would do.

Adding to the above rumors, the Land Cruiser Prado (GX based) we're getting will be more retro-styled and will be the more hardcore off-road version of the platform shared by the 4Runner, Prado and GX. Makes sense, would love if they put a front-locker on the thing!

Sorry, I've checked in and out but haven't been keeping up with the thread full time.

I just know the GX and Prado are basically the same, the GX is just the "luxury" model. The 4runner kinda filled the gap, sharing a lot of the same stuff. Seems like having all 3 wouldn't be prudent

That's an interesting article - thanks for posting it. I would have bought a 200 series Land Cruiser last year if I had found one but for now the 4Runner will do. I miss the full-time 4WD but not the mileage.

I thought about the 200 series before I bought my 4Runner. For me, the cost just didn't justify it. The 4R has been fine for what I need - "good enough". Still, I'd prefer something a little boxier if that meant it had more interior room!

More choice and selection keeps customers buying your brand instead of brand-x.

Lexus just did this, adding the new TX when they introduced the new GX.

I hope you’re right. I priced out a ‘23 SR5P on Toyota’s website yesterday and it was nearly $55 with just a couple of things I wanted.

So, now we're back to speculating that the 4Runner is getting deleted? Lol.

What gap does the 4Runner fill between the GX and the Prado, considering both are more luxurious than the 4Runner?

Aren't 4runners already starting in the mid 40s, and into the mid 50s for higher trims?

I wonder if they'll do some cost cutting on the 4Runner, make it more similar to the Tacoma (slightly smaller, maybe build in the same plant), and move it in price closer to the Taco.

This would leave room for the LC at or just above the current 4Runner price point.

I could see a Taco SUV being called the new 4Runner, and what would be a continuation of the 4R (i.e. GX twin) called the Land Cruiser.

Still seems a little crowded to me, but this is the company that decided two Highlanders is a good idea, so who knows.

I've always considered the 4runner the toyota version of the GX since the Prado wasn't available in the states. Kinda like the LC was the toyota version of the LX - although both were ridiculously overpriced and "luxurious".

I think the last gen land cruiser started having quality issues. This is pure speculation but based on the guys who used to do UK top gear. They almost always used a LC or Prado as chase vehicles. One of their last specials (once they moved to Amazon and became The Grand Tour) they talked about going through 6 LC chase vehicles because they kept breaking down. I was very surprised and put off a bit - not sure what year/gen they were

Ok, off-topic: I always thought Top Gear (Clarkson, Hammond and May) used Range Rovers? Or maybe that ended with the end of the L322 Rover. Ok, back to the topic....:p

They do, when they have somewhere to fix them!

From what I can tell, whenever there is a special (like driving to arctic circle, Africa, South America specials) they tend to use LC and Prados. Maybe because of parts availability? I know when they drove the hilux to the north pole they modified Prados to chase

That can not be a couple of things. 23 SR5P starts at little over 43K 2WD. How do a couple of things take you to 55K? :)

Same! I wanted a 200 but it was too expensive and now used prices are just out of control.
I always thought the third row was gimmick however. It eats up into the trunk space since it can't fold into floor, and it isn't that roomy. Why didn't they just take it out?

According to Toyota, 4Runner starts at $40,155.

    https://www.toyota.com/4runner/2023/

I think the 6th gen will still start in the 40's too........mid 40's at the most, IMO.

This is correct. Mine was $38,505 in October 2023 for the new 2023 model. It has increased since then.

(And mine weighs 405 pounds lighter than the Limited model. LOL)

The Land Cruiser that came to the USA was fully optioned with no way to get a base model or anything without just about all the expensive extras (thus the $95K price tag. The V8 engine, the sunroof, the heated seats, the full leather interior, the third row and so on were all options in other countries such as those in the MIddle East. Even today in the Middle East there are two engine options in the new J300 Land Cruiser: the new V6 turbo thingy and our tried and true 1GR-FE which @Thatbassguy aptly pointed out is a more expensive option than the new turbo V6. (EDIT: he pointed out that the 1GR-FE was a LESS expensive version, not more expensive.)

I had a 2000 J100 series that was fully loaded and the only factory option on it was third row air conditioning.

I hope so. I thought we were expecting a price hike due to the market, and everyone over paying for them for the last 3 years. :notsure:

I thought the 1GR was less expensive than the turbo option??

The most interesting info in the AU article says, ‘Toyota sources say the US LandCruiser is being pitched as a lower-volume vehicle.” Low volume generally means high margin, high price, low availability and high dealer market adjustment fees. Low volume also might mean just one or two trims, fully equipped, fully optioned and fully expensive. It also means that the 4Runner future is guaranteed as the “high volume” product?

The article also says that the retro US LandCruiser will likely be sold in Europe. That is good news. If dealers Stateside get greedy, you could take a Euro delivery, drive the car around Europe for vacation and then ship it home. If you are going to pay $15K anyway for a dealer adjustment, you might as well get a nice vacation to the Amalfi coast thrown in!

I still find it strange that Toyota would become a short order house and make a bespoke car just for the US. And the Aussie article also includes this clear disclaimer:”Toyota is yet to confirm a US-focused version of the Prado is even in development.” Kind a puts a chill on our enthusiasm.

You are correct again! Sheesh. My dyslexia must be flaring up. Sorry about that. It's much cheaper than the new V6 turbo. See prices below. Sorry about that.

The 1GR-FE model is about $24,800 less expensive than the turbo V6.

    $63,700 for the 1GR-FE V6

    $88,468 for the V35A-FTS twin-turbo V6

My guess is the next US LandCruiser will be a TRD Pro but somehow with extra features. I totally get that they'd figure out a way to bump the margins and take advantage of whoever has the desire and the dollars for a Land Cruiser. Although, considering the TRD Pro will probably nudge closer to $60k, at $70k, the Ineos Grenadier, while a first gen, not-a-Toyota-quality vehicle, becomes interesting compared to whatever Land Cruiser we get.

I dunno, my 2021 4R TRD ORP was $$$ enough. I remember when I sold my Defender 110 back in 2007, with 120k miles it still got top dollar and I was like, this is ridiculous. It's a truck. WTF.

The Grenadier looks great on paper. Too bad it's ugly, and powered by BMW. So much potential wasted.
