Yeah, the vehicle is top-heavy enough to begin with. My concept for basket use might be travel with most bulky items in the cabin and move them up at night, with the exception of traction boards and the like. The thought of having much dynamic load on the factory crossbars makes me nervous. Throwing everything up there that I don't want to sleep on while I'm parked doesn't bother me so much.

My wife (ex-English teacher) tells me there actually a word for "I-threw-up-in-my-mouth". It is "Thurp" (combination of "throw up" and "burp")==I prefer "Barp" (combination of "barf" and "burp").

    Just sayin'

Too late. Thurping Thursday is a thing now. Also, I zipped my poll by accident and now I need some serious help.

I like my gobi stealth. It basically cost me my left nut in price and my sanity in lead time but I knew both when entering the relationship. I still think it's one of the nicest looking racks and good quality.

But, beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. Everyone has different tastes

I have no opinion with regard to how it looks. I personally won't put a roof rack on because I just don't like things on top of my vehicles. But that is just my preference. If you like it or want to carry stuff on top then do what you like..

I think I need Akio Toyoda to fix my poll.

I have the same rule for Toyoda that I have with camping sleep arrangements.

We can be hole to hole, or poll to poll, but not poll to hole.

Akio Toyoda likes going poll to hole. He does it to me every time I drive my 4Runner.

I see all kinds of cars driving around with empty baskets and personally they look ridiculous to me. If it's full of stuff, that's another story- at least get some cheap dry bags and fill them with bubble wrap for your mall-crawling adventures. You can also get cheap traction boards under $50 on Amazon and strap those up there.
