Looking at adding some recovery boards to my Sherpa roof rack. There are so many out there I dont even know where to start. Was wondering if anyone can make a suggestion for some in the 0-$200 range

Maxtrax I have heard nothing but good things about but are not cheap. Some of the cheaper ones I have seen reviews breaking upon use.

Buy once, cry once with Maxtrax. Watch for sales directly from them or other companies such as SDHQ.

There are cheaper brands but they have been known to wear down faster especially with wheelspin.

I have Exitrax Ultimate boards. They are a bit cheaper than MaxTrax but seem to be of similar quality. Check YouTube for reviews…

Maxtrax. You aren't going to care about the price when you need them.

    Best: Maxtrax

That said, I've had good luck with my Maxsa escaper buddies.

Here's what not to buy. My mistake, others can learn.

Used it one time on a Honda and with some wheel spin the plastic tabs for grip is half way worn.

I own maxtrax and they are the best. For other options there a couple good YouTube videos that test multiple brands. One good video is done by two Australian fellows. Just search YouTube for recovery board reviews.

I need to get some as well eventually.
I've always heard good things about maxtrax. Never heard from anyone about actiontrax but from what I read they seem good quality as well.
    Anyone has experienced both?

Also are metal teeth preferred over standard or does it not matter?

The replaceable metal teeth will keep the board in service longer.

Might be a stupid thing to point out. But my brother got a nonMaxtrax brand and they faded in a year. Mine are 3 years old and look like I took em out of the box. Personally I don’t care, but others have asked this question and potential color fade was also a point they considered.

Good point! I would imagine fading will be an issue with most of the cheaper ones. My Maxsas live on the roof most of the summer, and I haven't noticed any significant fading over 4 years now.

That's also UV degradation of the plastic. Over time it makes them brittle and they are more prone to failure.
